HEATER ASSEMBLY FOR ACCELERATING ATTACHMENT CURING
20220136546 · 2022-05-05 ·

The heater assembly includes a case having a heating element therein, a channel extending through the case and having a size and shape for selectively receiving therethrough a first end of an elastomeric fixture outstretched through a substrate to a first length having a first width, and a heat transfer surface positioned relative to the heating element for receiving generated heat therefrom. The heat transfer surface is generally positionable relative to the substrate to cooperate with an adhesively bondable attachment coupled to a second end of the elastomeric fixture opposite the first end and including an uncured bonding agent disposed thereon. The heater assembly and attachment simultaneously sandwich the substrate in compression engagement in between when the elastomeric fixture extends through the substrate into the central channel and relaxes to a second relatively shorter length having a second relatively larger width.

High-pressure tank manufacturing method

There is provided a high-pressure tank manufacturing method that ensures a shorten heating period compared with a conventional one and eliminates a need for taking out a material for heating after heating. A high-pressure tank manufacturing method includes: disposing a conductive heating material on an outer periphery of a resin liner; winding a conductive fiber with which thermosetting resin is impregnated around the outer periphery of the resin liner on which the heating material is disposed; and heating the heating material and the fiber on the outer periphery of the resin liner by induction heating to harden the thermosetting resin.

Induction curing of cell-based structural arrays

Adhesive bondlines in a cell-based structural array are thermally cured using tooling blocks inserted into the cells. The tooling blocks have embedded susceptors that are inductively heated by an alternating electromagnetic field generated by an electromagnet.

METHODS OF EMBEDDING AN ELONGATE SUSCEPTOR WITHIN A THERMOPLASTIC BODY AND SYSTEMS THAT PERFORM THE METHODS
20210362438 · 2021-11-25 ·

Methods of embedding an elongate susceptor within a thermoplastic body and systems that perform the methods are disclosed herein. The methods include extending the elongate susceptor such that an extended portion of the elongate susceptor extends between a guide structure and a body-contacting structure. The methods also include heating a segment of the elongate susceptor to produce a heated portion of the elongate susceptor. The methods further include pressing a leading region of the heated portion of the elongate susceptor through a body surface of the thermoplastic body and into the thermoplastic body. The methods also include operatively translating at least one of the guide structure, the body-contacting structure, and an application tool that includes the guide structure and the body-contacting structure along an embedment pathway for the elongate susceptor.

Heating of thermoplastic interlayers in a preform tool for producing a preform of a composite member
11224992 · 2022-01-18 · ·

Systems and methods for producing a preform for a composite member. An exemplary method includes preparing a lay-up of reinforcement layers and thermoplastic interlayers, and transferring the lay-up to a preform tool. The method further includes inducing heat in the preform tool to a transition-temperature range that causes the thermoplastic interlayers to become tacky or viscous, and applying pressure to the lay-up with the preform tool to shape the lay-up into the preform.

Rapid-Induction Sinter Forge for Roll-to-Roll Continuous Manufacturing of Thin Films
20210346951 · 2021-11-11 ·

A method of and apparatus for sinter forging a precursor powder to form a film may reduce or eliminate the stress in the film and may facilitate processing of continuous length of films such as ceramic films for use in batteries. The precursor powder can be provided on a substrate and is simultaneously heated and pressed in a pressing direction parallel to a thickness of the film so as to sinter and densify the precursor powder to form the film in a sinter forging area. Notably, in a plane perpendicular to the pressing direction, there are no lateral constraints on the sinter forging area or the material received therein.

POLYMER COMPOSITIONS FOR EXTRUSION AND ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESSES

A polymer composition capable of being additively manufactured includes a polymer matrix and a magnetically receptive additive. The polymer composition may be additively manufactured or extruded to form a tool which may be used to form a composite part.

Thermoplastic Skin Panels, Torque Box and Method

Stiffened skin panels comprise alternating truss core portions and solid laminate portions sandwiched between inner and outer facesheets, all formed from a fiber reinforced thermoplastic. The components of the panels are co-consolidated using induction heating. The panels are stiffened with spars fastened to the solid laminate portions.

Charge heating method and systems for induction molding

A method and system for heating a material includes an induction coil, a susceptor providing a receptacle, where the receptacle is configured to receive the material, and at least one nozzle for ejecting a heated gas onto and/or into the material. During the method, the susceptor is heated by the induction coil, and thermal energy from the susceptor can be transferred to the material. In addition to being heated by heat from the susceptor, the material is also heated by the heated gas, thereby increasing a heating rate of the material to rapidly heat the material to a processing temperature. The system can include other components such as a gas source, at least one conduit that channels gas from the gas source to the at least one nozzle, and a heat source that heats the gas prior to ejecting the gas from the at least one nozzle.

Adjustable CTE polymer compositions for extrusion and additive manufacturing processes

A polymer composition capable of being additively manufactured includes a polymer matrix and an NTE additive. The NTE additive enables tailoring of the CTE of the polymer composition and the additively manufactured structure made using the composition.
