MULTIPLE SCREW EXTRUDER IMPLEMENTED WITH VACUUM VENT AND SCREWS CONFIGURED TO DENSIFY, OR EXTRACT FLUID FROM, MATERIAL PROCESSED BY THE EXTRUDER
A multiple screw extruder (50) combines application of vacuum to a vacuum vent (62) positioned between material feed locations (70, 72) of the extruder and use of specially configured extruder screws (58) to extract gases, primarily air, out of the extruder to densify the materials introduced into it and to extract unwanted fluid from material introduced for mixture with molten polymeric material flowing through the extruder. The multiple screw extruder is operationally versatile in that it is capable of carrying out the material densification and fluid extraction processes either separately or simultaneously. Implementation of the disclosed vacuum feed technology provides an increase in rate of extrudate throughput as compared with that achievable by implementation of atmospheric venting (16) in a conventionally configured extruder (10a, 10b).
SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR INJECTING COLOR DURING MANUFACTURE OF BULKED CONTINUOUS CARPET FILAMENT
A method of introducing color to a polymer stream during the manufacturing of bulked continuous carpet filament comprises: adding a colorant to a polymer stream downstream of a primary extruder; changing a color probe within a color injection port while maintaining the flow of the polymer stream at a polymer stream pressure; using one or more static mixing assemblies for the polymer stream to substantially uniformly mix the polymer stream and its colorant; and spinning the polymer stream with its substantially uniformly mixed colorant into BCF using a spinning machine.
FEEDING SCREW MACHINE FOR FEEDING A PROCESSING SCREW MACHINE
A feeding screw machine for feeding a processing screw machine comprises a housing with at least two housing bores formed therein and screw shafts rotatably arranged in the at least two housing bores. The at least two housing bores and the at least two screw shafts define a free volume in a respective cross-sectional plane, which decreases monotonically at least in some regions for continuous compression of a material in a conveying direction. This enables an improved supply of material with a low bulk density.
Ultra-high purity polycarbonates having good inherent color and thermal resistance and a device and a method for producing the same
The invention relates to polycarbonates with extremely low residual levels of volatile constituents and thermal degradation products, and also improved optical properties, especially Yellowness Index (YI) and good thermal stability, from solvent-containing polymer melts. The invention further relates to an apparatus and a process for preparing these polycarbonates with the aid of a devolatilizing extruder with at least three devolatilizing zones, and zones for introducing entraining agent into dispersion are present upstream of at least three devolatilizing zones.

CONTINUOUS COMPOUNDING SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USE
Continuous compounding systems include a feeding section and a compounding section. Method for compounding or mixing solid matter and liquid matter include providing a continuous compounding system, adding matter to the continuous compounding system, and mixing or compounding the matter.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A DYED AND AN UNDYED PLASTIC MELT
A device for producing a dyed plastic melt and an undyed plastic melt includes a multi-shaft screw extruder, a first metering installation, a second metering installation, and a control installation for selecting between a first operating mode for producing the dyed plastic melt and a second operating mode for producing the undyed plastic melt. The first metering installation serves for feeding an undyed plastic material through a first infeed opening into a housing of the multi-shaft screw extruder, and the second metering installation serves for feeding at least one color granulate through a second infeed opening into the housing. The plastic material is fed exclusively by way of the first infeed opening such that residual color granulate or dyeing agent contained therein, respectively, which is still located in the second metering installation or in the region of the second infeed opening does not contaminate the undyed plastic melt.
