A method and system for processing a heated flexible sheet, with oppositely facing surfaces, that is advanced in a processing path. A first cooling roll has a first peripheral surface for contacting one of the sheet surfaces. A second cooling roll has a second peripheral surface for contacting the other sheet surface. The system is configured so that the first and second cooling rolls are selectively movable in relationship to each other in a manner, other than by moving one or both of the first and second cooling rolls towards or away from the flexible sheet, between: a) a first relationship wherein the first sheet surface is caused to engage the first peripheral surface over a first circumferential extent as the flexible sheet is advanced in the processing path; and b) a second relationship wherein the first sheet surface is caused to engage the first peripheral surface over a second circumferential extent that is different than the first circumferential extent as the flexible sheet is advanced in the processing path.

Systems and methods for generating a film suitable for medical packaging are provided. The film is generated by blown film co-extrusion to form a multi-layer film which has a heat resistant layer, a barrier layer and a heat seal layer. The barrier layer includes a high barrier resin and a branched co-polymer. The high barrier resin has a density of at least 0.963 g/cm.sup.3. The barrier layer includes between 25% and 85% high barrier resin. In some embodiments, an additional laminate layer may be affixed to the heat resistant layer of the multi-layer film. The final film is between 3.0 and 3.8 mils in thickness, and has a moisture vapor transmission rate of less than 0.08.

A method of and apparatus for extruding an article of uniform cross-section, the article including a thermoplastic material and at least one cable for inhibiting stretch of the article. The cable is supplied to a respective tube and is conveyed between upstream and downstream ends. The thermoplastic material may be supplied to the downstream end of the tube. The thermoplastic material is brought together with the cable to embed the cable within the thermoplastic material, thereby forming a composite extrudate. The tube is configured to at least hinder movement of loose windings of the cable from the downstream end towards the upstream end, which may prevent or at least reduce incidence of birdcaging.

A composite floor comprises a coextrusion layer compression molded using a coextrusion process. The layer comprises a first stone-plastic layer, a stone-plastic foaming layer, and a second stone-plastic layer sequentially arranged from top to bottom. The stone-plastic foaming layer is used as the main material layer, which reduces a whole weight of the floor; and the first stone-plastic layer and the second stone-plastic layer are arranged at two sides of the stone-plastic foaming layer, respectively, so that the composite floor is more stable. It is more environmentally friendly and simple in manufacturing to use the coextrusion process for compression molding by avoiding bonding using glue. Use of the coextrusion process makes various layers bond more compact, with little delamination and warpage due to effect of environmental changes. The composite floor has a low expansion rate and shrinkage rate, excellent in performance and long in service life.
