Disclosed is a tray sealing apparatus for sealing a disposable tray with a thermoplastic sealing film. The tray sealing apparatus includes: a base body having a top surface and a tray reception cavity formed in the upper surface; and a heater unit for heating the sealing film that the sealing film adheres by fusion to the flange of the tray inserted in the tray reception cavity. The heater unit includes a principal surface with a predetermined width, and a thin strip-type electric heating element formed in a closed curve shape corresponding to the shape of the flange of the tray. When sealing the tray with the seal film by fusion, the peripheral surface of the electric heating element is disposed along the whole flange of the tray with the seal film being interposed therebetween so as to apply the heat generated by the electric heating element to the seal film.

A machine and method for making bags is described and includes a web traveling from an input section to a rotary drum, to an output section. The rotary drum includes at least one seal bar, having a single sealing zone, and a weakening zone disposed within the single sealing zone. The single sealing zone may be a heated perforator, includes a heating wire. The heating wire may be an NiCr wire stitched into the heater, and be disposed on a cap or on the seal bar. The weakening zone may create a line of weakness that is uniform or varies in intensity. The sealing zone may include temperature zones, cartridge heaters, cooling air, or heated air, or a source of ultrasonic, microwave or radiative energy.

METHOD FOR BONDING AT LEAST PARTIALLY OVERLAPPING MATERIAL LAYERS AND AUTOMATIC BONDING APPARATUS FOR PERFORMING THE METHOD

An automatic bonding apparatus and a method for thermally induced seam bonding of weldable and/or gluable flat flexible material layers with each other which are each configured as a material web, material band and/or material piece and arranged so that they overlap at least partially wherein the bonding is performed by an electrically controlled contact heating arrangement through a heating wedge welding method. A temperature and/or a power of the heating wedge which is formed by a thin folded steel sheet blank is controlled as a function of a relative velocity between the material layers and the automatic bonding apparatus. This is performed so that a thermal energy that is transferred from the heating wedge to the material layers to be glued is kept constant. For this purpose the relative velocity is detected and the power of the heating wedge is automatically adjusted when the relative velocity changes.

Devices and methods for fusing materials using a heating element, where the overall mass to be sealed varies along the length of the seal. According to the invention, the heating element has a different profile in different areas. According to some aspects, the thickness and/or cross section of the heating element is different in different areas so that when a current is passed through the heating element, each area heats to a different degree. In some aspects, the heating element is shaped to conform to the shape of the parts to be fused together. The transition between areas of different thickness or cross-sectional area, or between areas of different shape may be sharply defined. This abrupt transition may be created by machining the heating element to a finished shape rather than bending flat stock to shape.

Split bus assembly for heat-seal tool

A split bus assembly is provided for a heat-sealing machine. The split bus assembly includes a clamp with first and second clamp segments that abut each other in face-to-face engagement. The engaging surfaces or inner walls of the clamp segments may be coated with a nonconductive material so that the clamp segments are electrically insulated with respect to each other. A tab terminal may be defined at each inner wall, constituting a zone of exposed conductive material which is configured to engage a conductive tab of a heat-seal band during use. Biasing members such as a silicone spring may be arranged in the tool to facilitate ejection of the heat-seal band during a removal procedure. The tool may be cooled by way of cooling fluid that flows through passages in the bus bars.
