System and method for bonding structural components
System includes a first object having an energy-assisted bonding (EAB) mechanism along a surface of the first object. The EAB mechanism includes a heat-activatable adhesive layer and a carbon-filled (CF) sheet material. The CF sheet material is electrically conductive for resistive heating. A control sub-system is configured to control a coupling actuator to drive an actuator body toward the first object, wherein the actuator body and the first object engage each other. The coupling actuator is configured to apply pressure to the EAB mechanism along the surface of the first object. The control sub-system is also configured to control the power source to apply a current through the CF sheet material of the EAB mechanism to provide thermal energy through resistive heating that activates the adhesive layer along the interface.
METHODS FOR THERMAL WELDING OF WIND TURBINE BLADES
Disclosed herein are methods, devices, and systems for manufacturing wind turbine blades which in some instances require using new blade joint designs. The blade joint designs described herein may allow for contact in places where welds will be made, which allows for existing manufacturing tolerances to be used while still enabling the use of thermal welding for wind turbine blades.
Electrofusion Fittings for Lined Pipes
A liner bridge for a lined pipeline has bores extending through a tubular wall and terminals fitted in the bores, each terminal being exposed to an inward side of the wall for conducting electricity to an electrofusion element. A sealing interface between each terminal and its surrounding bore has one or more projecting formations of the terminal and at least one complementary formation of the bore engaged with the or each of the projecting formations. The interface can also include a sealing mass in the bore.

The present invention is provided with: an insulation holder formed of a thermoplastic resin material and having a first opening; a wire connection ring formed of a thermoplastic resin material and having a second opening; and a joining component inserted astride in the first opening and the second opening, the joining component being formed of a metal material having a higher melting point than those of the thermoplastic resin materials, the joining component having a higher stiffness than those of the insulation holder and the wire connection ring, wherein a welded part is formed by welding in at least a part of an area where each of the insulation holder and the wire connection ring has contact with the joining component.
PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THERMOPLASTIC POLYMER COMPOSITE PARTS, AND OBJECT OBTAINED BY SAID PROCESS
The invention relates to a process (100) for manufacturing an object (1) made of thermoplastic polymer composite from at least two parts (10) made of thermoplastic polymer composite, said thermoplastic polymer composite comprising a fibrous reinforcement and a thermoplastic polymer matrix, said process comprising the steps of:
arranging (120) the two parts (10) made of thermoplastic polymer composite adjacently or overlapping at an assembly interface zone (11), and
heating (130) to melt the thermoplastic polymer matrix at said assembly interface zone (11), so as to form an object (1) made of thermoplastic polymer composite comprising a welded interface (12).
LOW COST JOINED CASCADE
A cascade array includes a first strongback having a first thermoset or thermoplastic composite material. The cascade array further includes a second strongback having a second thermoset or thermoplastic composite material. The cascade array further includes a first vane that is coupled to the first strongback and the second strongback and includes a third thermoset or thermoplastic composite material.
Electrofusion fitting methods
The invention provides improvements to electrofusion fitting methods that allow for continuity and repeatability of welds between an electrofusion fitting and a pipe lining (or stand-alone pipe). An electrofusion fitting for joining sections of lined pipe has heating elements configured to create at least one weld between the electrofusion fitting and a pipe lining. However, prior to the weld step taking place the electrofusion fitting is heated and expands accordingly to ensure contact with the pipe lining. Preheating the electrofusion fitting also provides a predetermined starting temperature for the fitting and the lining which results in improved fusion cycle reliability. Furthermore, the need for clamps or support frames to support the electrofusion fitting in situ is removed, with corresponding reductions in cycle times, complexity, and hence cost.
DIFFUSION BARRIER FOR IMPLANTABLE ELECTRODE LEADS
A process for producing an electrical conductor structure that involves embedding at least one metallic conductor track and at least one heating conductor in an electrically insulating substrate, and producing an electric current in the heating conductor so that a first layer of the substrate and a second layer of the substrate fuse in an area surrounding the heating conductor, to seal an interface between the two layers. A conductor structure is also disclosed, in particular in the form of an implantable electrode lead.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic electrofusion fitting and a self-monitoring method of strain
The invention provides a carbon fiber reinforced plastic electrofusion fitting and a self-monitoring method of strain for the fitting. Carbon fiber filled polymer is used to fabricate the fitting to improve the mechanical strength of the fitting. The fitting comprises an electrofusion fitting body embedded with a resistance heating wire and two terminals arranged on the electrofusion fitting body and connected to the two ends of the resistance heating wire respectively. For the self-monitoring of strain, at least one pair of electrodes are set on the surface of the electrofusion fitting. The resistance change between electrodes caused by fitting deformation due to temperature change or mechanical loading during operation can be measured, and could be further used for structural health monitoring of the electrofusion fitting. The combination of mechanical enhancement and strain sensing of the electrofusion fitting can improve the performance and reliability of plastic pipelines.
