SEGMENTED COMPOSITE TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH SCARF JOINTS
A hollow tube assembly is constructed from two or more concave segments, each having longitudinal edges that are tapered perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the assembly with substantially identical tapers. The respective tapered edges are joined at respective joining faces forming scarf joints, either with or without applying an adhesive between opposing joining faces. The overall thickness of the scarf joint may substantially correspond to the thickness of the segments. The scarf joints may be straight or arcuate. The segments may be constructed by overlaying layers of a composite material made of carbon fiber reinforced polymers and may be provided in pre-impregnated (prepreg) form.
Manufacturing method for joined body
A manufacturing method for a joined body, includes: bringing a first member and a second member into contact with each other, at least one of the first member and the second member being made of thermoplastic resin, and the second member having a recessed portion on a joining surface to be joined to the first member; and welding the first member and the second member together, including welding a contact portion of the first member and the second member by melting the thermoplastic resin by frictional heat generated in the contact portion by relative movement of the first member and the second member, in a state in which the first member and the second member are in contact with each other.
POLYURETHANE GAUGE WHEEL TIRE
A disclosed example embodiment of a gauge wheel tire includes a first polyurethane sidewall portion, a second polyurethane sidewall portion, a polyurethane ground-engaging portion, and a polyurethane axial support portion. The first polyurethane sidewall portion is spaced apart from the second polyurethane sidewall portion, and the polyurethane ground-engaging portion extends from the first polyurethane sidewall portion to the second polyurethane sidewall portion and is adapted to contact a ground surface as the gauge wheel tire rotates about an axis of rotation. The polyurethane axial support portion extends from the first polyurethane sidewall portion to the second polyurethane sidewall portion, and is spaced apart from the polyurethane ground-engaging portion to form a gap that allows radial movement of the polyurethane ground-engaging portion relative to the polyurethane axial support portion.
Method for joining sandwich truss core panels and composite structures produced therefrom
Fluted core sandwich panels are joined together to form a composite structure. Variations in panel ends are accommodated by a core stiffener insert installed in a joint between ends of the panels.
Resistive implant welding carbon fiber composite thermoplastics
A method of resistive implant welding thermoplastic composites. At least two sections of a component formed with weldable thermoplastic material are provided. The two sections of the component each have a welding surface along which the component is welded together. The welding surface includes a first surface adjoining a second surface at an angle exceeding about 30 degrees or another three dimensional shape. A first wire mesh conductor material is positioned between the welding surface of the at least two sections along the first surface. A second wire mesh conductor material is positioned between the welding surface of the at least two sections along the second surface in an overlapping manner at the angled connection. An electric current is applied to the conductors causing the conductors to heat up and melt the at least two sections of the component together.
Electrofusion fitting and method of repairing pipes
A fitting for repairing a leaking polymer pipe is provided. The fitting includes a first housing and a second housing that are sized to fit about the pipe. The first housing includes a first coil configured to increase in temperature in response to the application of an electrical current to fuse the first housing to the second housing and the pipe. The second housing includes a second coil on a first end and a third coil on an opposing end. The second and third coils configured to increase in temperature in response to the application of electrical current to fuse the second housing to the pipe. The fitting further includes a first seal coupled to the first housing and a second seal coupled to the second housing. The first and second seal forming a seal that prevents gas pressure from the pipe from interrupting the fusion process.
Resistive implant welding carbon fiber thermoplastics using highly conductive mesh
A method of resistive implant welding carbon fiber thermoplastic composites which includes providing at least two portions of a component formed with carbon fiber material, the at least two portions of the component each have a welding surface where the at least two portions of the component are welded together. One or more conductors of copper or aluminum mesh material positioned between the welding surface of the two portions. The method includes a forming tool having at least two portions capable of moving between an open position and a closed position. The forming tool has a welding region with non-conductive metal surface areas where electric current is selectively applied to facilitate the welding together of the at least two portions of the component. The forming tool has forming regions with conductive surfaces where the two components are shaped.
Penetration fitting
Disclosed is an apparatus, a kit, and a method for repairing a sump wall pipe fitting. The apparatus may comprise first and second fitting halves for repairing a penetration fitting for a sump wall, the fitting halves having a semi-annular flange with a seal plate adapted to be sealed to the sump wall; at least one semi-cylindrical cuff that extends axially outward from surface of the semi-annular flange opposite the seal plate; and a semi-annular rib that extends radially inward from the semi-annular flange spaced at a distance between the seal plate and a rim of the at least one semi-cylindrical cuff. A dispensed bonder may also be included.
Casing tube and manufacturing method thereof
A pre-buried casing tube uses glass fiber reinforced resin as the raw material to enhance the operation strength of the pre-buried casing tube, extend the service life of the pre-buried casing tube, and reduce maintenance cost of the railway transport system. The pre-buried casing tube includes at least one casing tube body, each casing tube body including at least one retaining element, the retaining elements provided in intervals along one side of the casing tube, each casing tube body disposed adjacently so as to form a passage for a screw, each retaining element provided in the passage for the screw.
INJECTION MOLDED COMPOSITE BLANK AND GUIDE
This specification discloses an article of manufacture. The article of manufacture has at least one structural blank and at least one guide. The structural blank has a plurality of oriented fiber plies in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide has a plurality of random dispersed fibers in a thermoplastic matrix. The guide is affixed to the structural blank by injection molding and over molding the guide onto the structural blank. The article of manufacture can take a number of forms for use in industries such as aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, trains or watercraft.
