Methods and apparatus for fabricating adhesive bonded joints while minimizing the voids and/or porosity found in the cured bondline. In accordance with various embodiments, the apparatus comprises an evacuation chamber combined with a pressure inducing device to produce bonded joints that are both void free and thoroughly compacted. The surfaces to be bonded are continuously evacuated throughout the bonding process (pre-mating, mating, debulking and cure). Continuous evacuation is provided via standard vacuum, while the induced pressure can be pneumatically or mechanically provided.

The drip try includes a barrier member that extends upwardly at a rear portion to redirect the open top portion of the bag member into the drip tray when the bag member has been inserted into the opening. The cavity also includes a heating bar used to apply a seal to the open top portion of the bag member. The front wall of the housing is angled between 15 and 45 relative to a surface on which the appliance rests.

An adjustable sealing apparatus and corresponding method of use is disclosed. The sealing apparatus has a variable range of motion programmed to accommodate multiple types of sealing motion, including the reciprocal motion and rotary motion. The proposed design uses two sealing jaw units with each sealing jaw unit located on opposing sides of a continuous layered film. Each sealing jaw unit has a sealing jaw coupled to a distal end of extendable linkages. The sealing jaws are extendable to allow the sealing surfaces to engage one another at a plurality of sealing locations along a plurality of sealing paths. Moreover a control unit is communicatively coupled to each of the sealing jaw units and controls movement of the sealing jaw units to engage one another at one or more of the plurality of sealing locations which enables sealing of the film to produce bags.

The device is further developed for a reliable and safe manufacture of the packing unit consisting of a bag and an envelope by the sealing jaw element being fixed to a sealing jaw swivel arm at which a sealing jaw connecting rod is applied, and the counter-jaw element being fixed to a counter-jaw swivel arm at which a counter-jaw connecting rod is applied, and by the sealing jaw connecting rod and the counter-jaw connecting rod being each eccentrically connected to a common drive shaft of a servomotor. In the method according to the invention, the contact force between the sealing jaw element and the counter-jaw element is controlled via the torque of the servomotor actuating the sealing jaw element and/or the counter-jaw element.
