Flexible Jaws for Vertical Fill Form and Seal Apparatus and Methods of Use

A vertical form fill and seal apparatus, for packaging particulates, includes a package sealing assembly that has opposed sealing jaws operatively coupled to each other by mechanical connection at a common pivot point. A first jaw actuator is mechanically coupled to the opposed sealing jaws to pivot the jaws in a controlled manner about the common pivot point. A second actuator is mechanically coupled to the package sealing assembly and is configured to impart controlled reciprocating motion to the package sealing assembly. A controller is configured to control the first actuator and to control the second actuator thereby causing the jaws to describe a preset locus of travel, allowing flexibility of type of bag being made without change-out of jaws. The packaging film may move continuously, or may optionally be controlled to move intermittently through the VFFS.

Sealing Device

A sealing device incorporated in a packaging machine heat-seals a vicinity of a bag mouth of a packaging bag. Paired heater bars are disposed opposite each other so as to be openable/closable and hold the vicinity between them when closed, thereby heat-sealing the vicinity. A link mechanism converts rotation of an output shaft of a servomotor to an opening/closing operation of the heater bars . A storage unit stores seal patterns, each of which includes a sealing pressure applied to the parts and a sealing time period for which the parts are continuously held. A selection unit is configured to select one seal pattern. The output shaft is rotated by a predetermined closing angle according to the sealing pressure of the selected seal pattern to close the heater bars. The heater bars are maintained in the closed state for the sealing time period of the selected seal pattern.

A bag forming apparatus includes a pair of opposed sealing bars arranged on opposite sides of a forming plane, a pair of guide arms, each extending from a first arm end through the forming plane to a second arm end and carrying a respective one of the pair of opposed sealing bars, a mounting frame to which the pair of guide arms are movably mounted between the first and second arm ends, and a drive shaft connected to the second arm end of each of the pair of guide arms such that shaft rotation is operable to move the pair of opposed sealing bars into and out of engagement across a web of bag forming material traveling therebetween in the forming plane. The drive shaft can be translatable relative to the mounting frame to adjust a closure gap between the pair of opposed sealing bars.

An apparatus 10) and a method for manufacturing plastic bags (20) from at least two layers of plastic film (30, 40). The apparatus (10) comprises a lower tool plate (300) and an upper tool plate (400); the lower tool plate (300) is driven by a crank (650) on a servomotor (675). The servomotor (675) is connected to a measuring device (680) for measuring the power consumption.

MULTI-PURPOSE SEALING MODULE FOR PLASTIC FILM BASED BAGS AND POUCHES MAKING MACHINE

Multi-purpose sealing module (20) for machine (10) to manufacture heat-sealed plastic film based bags comprises a servo motor driven common drive shaft (30) in keyed connection with eccentric cams (40a, 40b) and (50a, 50b) such that eccentricity is equal and in opposite directions. Crank arms (60a, 60b) are connected to the eccentric cams (40a, 40b) though bearings (80a, 80b) and through bearings (120a, 120b) to linear guide rods (100a, 100b). Linear guide rods (100a, 100b) are in rigid connection with upper seal beam (140). Crank arms (70a, 70b) are connected to the eccentric cams (50a, 50b) though bearings (90a, 90b) and through bearings (130a, 130b) to connecting rods (110a, 110b). Connecting rods (110a, 110b) are in rigid connection with lower seal beam (150). Movement of lower seal beam (150) is guided by linear guide rods (100a, 100b). Angular movement of common drive shaft (30) gives simultaneous linear movement in opposite directions to upper seal beam (140) and lower seal beam (150) controlling the gap between a sealing jaw connected to upper seal beam (140) and a sealing jaw connected to the lower seal beam (150). Seal time and seal pressure of sealing of plastic film based bags and pouches; and angular movement of the drive shaft (30) are controlled by a programmable controller.

Method and apparatus for attaching components to absorbent articles

Apparatus and method for applying discrete components of a first substrate to a second substrate includes a programmable servo motor having a shaft. The servo motor is programmed to rotate the shaft in a first phase and a second phase at a variable angular velocity in a single direction. The apparatus also includes a crank member connected with the shaft, a connector link connected with the crank member, and a tamper member connected with the connector link. When the shaft rotates in the first phase, the tamper member travels from a first position to a second position to displace a selected portion of the second substrate into contact with the discrete component.

Ultrasonic Sealing Apparatus For Use In Bag Filling And Packaging Machine

A horn and an anvil are moved toward and away from each other by axially reciprocating a driving rod and thereby reciprocatingly rotating a forked lever in a predetermined angle range. The horn and the anvil are moved toward and pressed against each other with a predetermined force with a bag mouth b held therebetween. A sensor detects the position of a second mounting block secured to the rear end of a sliding shaft of the anvil, thereby detecting the distance between respective pressing surfaces of the horn and the anvil, i.e. the thickness m of a portion of the bag mouth held between the pressing surfaces. When the thickness m is not less than a predetermined threshold value M, a vibrator is activated to perform sealing. When the thickness m is less than the threshold value M, no sealing is performed.
