METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING BULKED CONTINUOUS FILAMENT
A method for manufacturing bulked continuous carpet filament, the method comprising: (1) reducing a chamber pressure within a chamber to below about 5 millibars; (2) after reducing the chamber pressure to below about 5 millibars, providing a polymer melt to the chamber; (3) separating the polymer melt into at least eight streams; (4) while the at least eight streams of the polymer melt are within the chamber, exposing the at least eight streams of the polymer melt to the chamber pressure of below about 5 millibars; (5) after exposing the at least eight streams of the polymer melt to the chamber pressure of below about 5 millibars, recombining the at least eight streams into a single polymer stream; and (6) forming polymer from the single polymer stream into bulked continuous carpet filament.
INCORPORATING ADDITIVES INTO MOLTEN POLYMER VIA SLURRY INJECTION UPSTREAM OF A HOPPER
Polymer additive(s) are injected into molten polymer upstream of the hopper that feeds a molten mix of polymer with incorporated polymer additive(s) to a polymer extruder. Additive incorporation into the molten polymer is facilitated by an inlet device positioned inside the hopper, where the inlet device is configured to: i) receive a feed stream comprising a molten polymer, a liquid diluent, a polymer additive, and unreacted monomer, ii) provide one or more solid surfaces for incorporating the polymer additive into the molten polymer, and iii) direct the molten polymer and the polymer additive into the molten polymer pool that is in the hopper.
Measuring arrangement and method for determining properties of a material to be extruded while a screw-extrusion process is being carried out
In a measuring arrangement for determining properties of a material to be extruded while an extrusion process is being carried out in an extruder, at least one extruder screw is rotatably mounted in a tubular guide in a barrel and is connected to a rotary drive. Material to be extruded is fed to the tubular guide at one end and is removed as finish-extruded material at an oppositely arranged discharge. Arranged at measuring positions at predeterminable defined intervals on the wall of the tubular guide along the longitudinal axis of the extruder screw are multiple first sound transducers, which are designed for the detection of sound waves that are generated during the extrusion process by the extrusion process as process noises and/or are emitted by a second sound transducer, arranged at one end of the tubular guide, in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the extruder screw and into the material to be extruded that is conveyed through a mixing chamber present in the tubular guide.
Additive Manufacturing Apparatus for Extrusion-Based Production of a Shaped Body
An additive manufacturing apparatus for extrusion-based production of a shaped article starting from a build material present in the form of a granulate and/or a powder, includes a plasticizing means, a printing nozzle, and a first connecting channel. Via the first connecting channel the build material is at least temporarily conductible/conducted from an outlet of the plasticizing means to the exit opening of the printing nozzle. Via a further connecting channel build material is at least temporarily conductible/conducted to a receiving region which does not correspond to the exit opening of the printing nozzle.
Self-cleaning gravimetric and volumetric dosing apparatuses
A self-cleaning dosing apparatus includes a material hopper for containing pellets of material, a feed screw, a first material outlet through which pellets of material fall by gravity onto a first end of the feed screw for the feeding of pellets to a process machine. A second material outlet is located beneath the first end of the feed screw, with a slide gate blocking the second material outlet. A pneumatic piston is provided for pulling the slide gate to unblock the second material outlet, and a Venturi pump is located under the second material outlet for pulling pellets through the second material outlet when the slide gate is opened.
POWDER COATING COMPOSITION SYSTEM AND PROCESS
A system and process for producing a homogenous extrudate powder coating composition having predetermined properties, the system comprising a color library database that is configured to store one or more input formulation data objects capable of use in controlling the inputs and operation of an electronically controlled homogenous extrudate mixer.
PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR FABRICATING A COLORED POWDER COATING COMPOSITION FROM SOLID FILAMENTS
A process and system for rapidly fabricating small batches of powder coating compositions having desired colors from one or more solid input filaments. An additive manufacturing filament fabricator feeds one or more single-color solid polymer input filaments into a heated mixer in accordance with an input formulation to be liquefied and mixed to produce a homogenous extrudate mixture. The extrudate mixture is solidified on an extrudate receiving platform and is then comminuted by an extrudate mill into a finished powder coating composition having a desired color.
Systems and methods for manufacturing bulked continuous filament
A method of manufacturing bulked continuous carpet filament which, in various embodiments, comprises: (A) grinding recycled PET bottles into a group of flakes; (B) washing the flakes; (C) identifying and removing impurities, including impure flakes, from the group of flakes; (D) passing the group of flakes through an MRS extruder while maintaining the pressure within the MRS portion of the MRS extruder below about 1.5 millibars; (E) passing the resulting polymer melt through at least one filter having a micron rating of less than about 50 microns; and (F) forming the recycled polymer into bulked continuous carpet filament that consists essentially of recycled PET.

SCREW MACHINE AND METHOD FOR THE PROCESSING OF MATERIAL TO BE PROCESSED
A screw machine includes an inductive heating device for processing of material to be processed. The inductive heating device is used to heat the material in a heating zone. In the heating zone, at least one housing portion is made of an electromagnetically transparent material at least partly, the material being non-magnetic and electrically non-conductive, whereas at least one treatment element shaft is made of an electrically conductive material at least partly. The inductive heating device includes at least one coil formed integrally with a component of the at least one housing portion, in particular in such a way as to form a hybrid component. During the processing of the material, the inductive heating device generates an alternating magnetic field that produces eddy current losses in the at least one treatment element shaft, the eddy current losses leading to a temperature increase of the at least one treatment element shaft.
