The extruder screw is mounted in the cylindrical barrel, and the screw has an outer surface having one or more helical flights mounted thereon, wherein the inlet end of the cylindrical barrel has a support frame mounted thereto, wherein an upper surface of the support frame is connected to a throat of a hopper, wherein an insert is mounted to the support frame and has a lower end which extends down into the cylindrical barrel, wherein the insert has an internal passageway having a first opening on the lower end and a second opening upstream of the screw for relieving the pressure.
Device and Method for Controlling the Feed of Polymer Melt to a Plastics Processing Machine
The invention relates to a device and a method for controlling the feed of polymer melt, which has been discharged from an extruder, to a plastics processing machine formed from at least two subunits (1, 2), to which the polymer melt discharged from the extruder is fed via a distributor (13) which is positioned downstream of the extruder and which serves for splitting up the polymer melt into partial streams corresponding to the number of subunits. According to the invention, the partial streams are each fed to a subunit by means of a gearwheel pump (11, 12). The volume flows fed to the subunits (1, 2), which are of substantially identical design, can be respectively separately controlled in open-loop or closed-loop fashion through control of the drive rotational speed of the respective gearwheel pump (11, 12) in a manner dependent on operating parameters and/or the configuration of the respective subunit (1, 2).
Method for manufacturing recycled polymer
A method for manufacturing bulked continuous carpet filament, the method comprising: (1) reducing a chamber pressure within a chamber to below about 5 millibars; (2) after reducing the chamber pressure to below about 5 millibars, providing a polymer melt to the chamber; (3) separating the polymer melt into at least eight streams; (4) while the at least eight streams of the polymer melt are within the chamber, exposing the at least eight streams of the polymer melt to the chamber pressure of below about 5 millibars; (5) after exposing the at least eight streams of the polymer melt to the chamber pressure of below about 5 millibars, recombining the at least eight streams into a single polymer stream; and (6) forming polymer from the single polymer stream into bulked continuous carpet filament.
Apparatus and method for manufacturing assembly having multiple separated conductors embedded within a substrate
An apparatus includes an extruding device configured to dispense a dielectric material though an orifice, a wire feed device configured to feed a conductive wire through the orifice, and a cutting device configured to sever the wire. It also includes an electronic controller configured to control the extruding device, the wire feed device, and the cutting device. The electronic controller commands the extruding device to dispense the dielectric material though the orifice, the wire feed device to feed the wire through the orifice, and the cutting device to sever the wire, thereby forming a dielectric substrate encasing a plurality of wires. The electronic controller further commands the extruding device to form an opening defined in the substrate in which plurality of electrically conductive wires is exposed and a location feature on the substrate located with a positional tolerance less than or equal to 1 mm relative to the opening.
TPV MADE FROM SILANE GRAFTED PE OR SILANE GRAFTED POE AND A POLYPROPYLENE
A thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) composition includes a dispersed crosslinked phase having residues of a first polymer that includes a first silane grafted polyolefin or residues thereof. The TPV composition also includes a continuous thermoplastic phase having residues of a second polymer component selected from the group consisting of polypropylene resin, polypropylene copolymers and combinations thereof. Characteristically, the dispersed crosslinked phase is dispersed in the continuous thermoplastic phase.
MULTILAYER STRUCTURE
The present invention deals with a multilayer structure comprising a first polyethylene layer as a first external layer. The first polyethylene layer is oriented in at least machine direction. The structure also comprises a second polyethylene layer as a second external layer. It further comprises a layer made of a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl alcohol (EVOH) between the first external layer and the second external layer and a tie layer on each side EVOH layer. Furthermore, the tie layers comprise one or more copolymers of ethylene.
POWDER COATING COMPOSITION SYSTEM AND PROCESS
A system and process for producing a homogenous extrudate powder coating composition having predetermined properties, the system comprising a color library database that is configured to store one or more input formulation data objects capable of use in controlling the inputs and operation of an electronically controlled homogenous extrudate mixer.
SYSTEM FOR USE IN PRODUCING A POWDER COATING COMPOSITION
A system for producing a homogenous extrudate powder coating composition having predetermined properties, the system comprising a color library database that is configured to store one or more input formulation data objects capable of use in controlling the inputs and operation of an electronically controlled homogenous extrudate mixer.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING BULKED CONTINUOUS FILAMENT FROM COLORED RECYLED PET
A system comprising: (1) a grinding unit configured to receive and grind recycled PET bottles into a group of polymer flakes comprising up to about ten percent colored polymer flakes and balance substantially clear polymer flakes; (2) a washing unit configured to wash the group of polymer flakes; and (3) an extruder configured to extrude material in a plurality of different extrusion streams. The extruder may be further configured to: (1) receive a concentrate-polymer mixture comprising a mixture of the polymer flakes and a color concentrate; (2) melt the concentrate-polymer mixture to produce a polymer melt; (3) reduce a pressure within the extruder; and (4) pass the polymer melt through the extruder so that the polymer melt is divided into the plurality of extrusion streams. The system may then filter the polymer melt through at least one filter and form the polymer melt into bulked continuous carpet filament.
