Retreaded tire treads having improved submerged voids and methods for forming the same

The invention includes methods for forming a retreaded tire and treads there for. Particular embodiments of such methods include providing a tire carcass configured to receive a tire tread along an annular tread-receiving area and a pre-formed tread comprising a tread body and a submerged void arranged along a bottom side of the tread and extending into the tread thickness to a top end located below the top side of the tread, the submerged void having a length and an opening arranged along the bottom side when the tread is in an uninstalled configuration, where the opening of the submerged void extends in a direction of the submerged groove length along an alternating, non-linear path. Further steps include assembling a retreaded tire by arranging the tire tread atop a bonding layer arranged between the tire tread and the tire carcass and comprising uncured bonding material.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IMPROVED TREAD SPLICING

A mold for molding a tire tread comprises a plurality of mold segments. Each of the plurality of mold segments includes an integer number of tread pitch repetitions. The plurality of mold segments are structured to be coupled to each other end-to-end so as to form the mold such that the mold includes an integer number of tread pitches. The mold also includes at least one mold end segment positioned on at least one end of the mold and has a mold end segment length shorter than a length of each of the plurality of mold segments.

Systems and methods for retreading a tire are disclosed. Embodiments include applying a layer of adhesive (e.g., Cushing gum) on the exterior of a prepared tire casing and a layer of pre-molded tread on the exterior of the adhesive. An inner electric heating pad is placed along the interior contour of the tire casing and/or an outer electric heating pad is placed along an exterior of the tread layer. The assembly is then cured by providing a force to the assembly while activating the heating pad(s) to cure the adhesive.
