POLYMER RECYCLATE PROCESSES AND PRODUCTS

Methods for processing LLDPE recyclates including, but not limited to, polyethylene and polypropylene and compositions therefrom are provided. LLDPE recyclate can be visbroken to improve processing characteristics and/or devolatilized to remove waste byproducts to produce processed LLDPE recyclates. Processed LLDPE recyclates are compounded with pre-consumer polyolefins to produce blend compositions having acceptable or even improved processing characteristics. Such pre-consumer polyolefins can also be visbroken to further tailor processing characteristics of such polymer blends. A combination of extruders and/or extruder zones can be used at the same or different locations for visbreaking and/or compounding of both LLDPE recyclate and/or pre-consumer polyolefins.

A transparent thermoformed high barrier plastic bottle is provided for use in storing food and beverages, personal care products, health care products, and other applications that require excellent transparency and barrier properties. The transparent thermoformed high barrier plastic bottle includes first and second outer layers formed using a transparent polyester or polyester copolymer; an inner nanolayer sequence including a plurality of nanolayers a) including ethylene vinyl alcohol, alternating with nanolayers b) including at least one of ethylene ethyl acrylate, low density polyethylene and linear low density polyethylene, each of the nanolayers b) having a degree of crystallinity less than about 45%; and adhesive layers between each of the two outer layers and the inner nanolayer sequence. Disclosed are compositions and methods for multilayer films, which, in one embodiment may comprise a core layer comprising at least 50 wt. % of high-density polyethylene. Further, the multilayer film may include a first skin layer comprising, consisting essentially of, or consisting of low-density polyethylene, optionally linear, and at least about 80 wt. % of high-density polyethylene, as well as a second skin layer comprising either: (i) one or more low-density polyethylenes, any or all of them optionally being linear; or (ii) one or more polypropylene-based copolymers. The multilayer film may be oriented in at least one direction.

In various aspects, the present disclosure pertains to thermoformable, multi-layer polymer films comprising a core layer that is comprised of a blend of high density polyethylene and low density polyethylene and, at least one outermost layer that is comprised of a blend of a cyclic olefin copolymer, polyethylene, a functionalized polymer, a dispersing agent and a mineral filler. The present disclosure includes thermoformed webs made from such films, the webs having one or more thermoformed cavities contained therein. Other aspects of the disclosure pertain to methods of forming such thermoformed webs, packaged products comprising such thermoformed webs, and methods of recycling such thermoformed webs.

FOAMABLE CROSS-LINKABLE THERMOPLASTIC MATERIAL, CONNECTOR AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

A foamable cross-linkable thermoplastic material comprises a matrix polymer of any one or a mixture of two or more of polyethylene (PE), ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and polypropylene (PP), a cross-linking agent, and a foaming agent. A weight ratio of the cross-linking agent to the matrix polymer is 1-5:100. A weight ratio of the foaming agent to the matrix polymer is 1-5:100. A cross-linking foaming temperature of the thermoplastic material is equal to or higher than the melting point of the matrix polymer.

FILM SECURING APPARATUS AND METHOD

Systems, apparatuses, and methods to secure a film to a container are provided. An example sealing device utilizes film from a supply of film to seal a lid onto a container. Various sizes of containers are usable with some example sealing devices. Additional features, such as printing on the film and piercing the film for ventilation and/or insertion of a straw are contemplated. One or more markings along the film may be utilized for confirming that an approved film has been loaded into the sealing device. In response, various components or features of the sealing device may be appropriately enabled or disabled. The one or more markings may also be utilized to convey data to the sealing device regarding the installed film, such as for improved operation thereof.
