A release mechanism can selectively disengage the carriage and carriage pulling mechanism from each other to allow the biasing element to propel the carriage along the ramp to cast the terminal tackle and fishing line.

In one embodiment, the eyelets are connected to the shaft and or an oar blade. In another embodiment, a short fishing rod section having one or more eyelets is connected to the shaft. The device is configured to permit fishing while a user propels a watercraft.
