This invention relates to a hollow telescoping fishing rod assembly with an inventive mounting block on the handle that aligns a hollow rod with a fishing reel so that the fishing line port of the reel is axially aligned with the opening in the proximal end of the hollow fishing rod. In some embodiments, the mounting block has a hinging mechanism to provide access to the end of the rod. The rod is segmented and provided with internal ferrules that reduce wear on the fishing line.

An additional elastic member is attached between the joining end portions of the base section and rod tip section for securing those end portions of the fishing rod when the rod tip section is stored along the length of the base section.

In one embodiment, the eyelets are connected to the shaft and or an oar blade. In another embodiment, a short fishing rod section having one or more eyelets is connected to the shaft. The device is configured to permit fishing while a user propels a watercraft.
