IMAGE FORMING METHOD, SET OF PROCESSING FLUID AND INK, AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

An image forming method includes a processing fluid applying step and an ink applying step. The processing fluid applying step involves applying a processing fluid containing a multivalent metal salt, a resin T.sub.A, a resin T.sub.B different from the resin T.sub.A, and a silicone-based surfactant to a non-permeating base material by an inkjet method, where the processing fluid is free of an organic solvent having a boiling point of 200° C. or higher at normal pressure. The ink applying step involves applying an ink containing a coloring material, an organic solvent, and a resin onto the processing fluid.

A printer includes a printing unit that ejects an ink from an inkjet head onto a medium, and a mist suction unit that suctions mist of the ink. The printing unit includes a first inkjet head, and a second inkjet head provided downstream of the first inkjet head in a transport direction of the medium. The mist suction unit includes a first mist suction device provided between the first inkjet head and the second inkjet head in the transport direction, a second mist suction device provided downstream of the second inkjet head in the transport direction, a first flow path coupling a blower and the first mist suction device, and a second flow path coupling the blower and the second mist suction device. A suction force of the second mist suction device is stronger than a suction force of the first mist suction device.

When printing is performed on a recording medium of a second size larger than a first size, a control portion, after passage of the recording medium of the first size at a position opposite a recording head before arrival of the recording medium of the second size at the position opposite the recording head, makes the recording head perform preparatory flushing processing in which ink is ejected toward openings from first nozzles that have not been set as target nozzles during printing on the recording medium of the first size but will be newly set as the target nozzles during printing on the recording medium of the second size.

A control portion sets, as a control period, a period after arrival, at a position opposite a recording head, of a first recording medium until passage, at the position opposite the recording head, of a last recording medium. The control portion sets nozzles that do not face the recording medium during the control period as first nozzles, and nozzles that face the recording medium during the control period as second nozzles, to make the total amount of ink ejected by each of the first nozzles in flashing processing during the control period smaller than the total amount of ink ejected by each of the second nozzles.

A control portion makes a recording head perform flushing processing every time a flushing area that does not overlap a recording medium faces the recording head but makes the recording head perform no flushing processing when a flushing area that at least in a part of it overlaps a recording medium faces the recording head. The longer a non-flashing period between the previous and present sessions of flushing processing, the larger the control portion makes the amount of ink ejected by each of nozzles in the present session of flushing processing.

Inkjet recording apparatus

The inkjet recording apparatus includes a conveyance belt, a conveyance plate, a suction unit, an inkjet head, and a cleaning unit. The conveyance belt has a plurality of through holes. The suction unit causes the conveyance belt to suck the sheet. The conveyance plate includes a plurality of through holes formed in bottom portions of the plurality of recessed portions. The inkjet head includes a head main body and a head end portion adjacent to the head main body, and faces an upper surface of the conveyance plate via the conveyance belt. The cleaning unit removes ink adhering to a lower surface of the head main body. A ratio of the recessed portions per unit area in a facing region of the conveyance plate facing the head end portion is smaller than a ratio of the recessed portions per unit area in a region other than the facing region.
