Based on the acquired print data, the controller adjusts at least one of: aspects of the first ON dots in the specific print data; and aspects of the second ON dots in the specific print data.

Method and device for improving the print image uniformity of a printed print image

In a device and a method for improving the print image uniformity, at least one print image is printed by a printer with at least one print bar that has at least one print head with a plurality of print nozzles. An image detector having a plurality of dot/image detection regions detects at least one value profile of measured inking intensities. A comparator compares the value profile with at least one reference value, and generates correction values dependent thereon.

The technique provided enables, when first ink is precured and second ink is ejected thereon, ensuring sufficient adhesion of the second ink via a primer. A printer includes a transport mechanism, a primer ejection head, a second light irradiator, a white-ink ejection head, a color-ink ejection head, and a controller. The controller controls the amount of primer ejected to a unit region of a continuous base material by the primer ejection head, the amount of white ink ejected thereto by the white-ink ejection head, and the amount of color ink ejected thereto by the color-ink ejection head. The controller determines a first primer amount based on the amount of white ink and determines a second primer amount based on the amount of color ink. The controller then determines an ultimate primer amount based on the sum of the first primer amount and the second primer amount.

IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND FLUSHING CONTROL METHOD FOR ASSIGNING RESPECTIVE DOT PATTERNS FOR USE IN FLUSHING WITH INKS OF DIFFERENT COLORS ACCORDING TO NUMBER OF OVERLAPPING DOTS IN IMAGE AREA

An image forming apparatus includes a recording head that ejects inks of different colors on a recording medium to form an image based on image data, a storage device that stores a plurality of different dot patterns for flushing, and a control device that functions as: a controller that allows the recording head to make flushing; an image area detector that detects an image area in the image data; an overlapping dot counter that counts a number of overlapping dots for each of the plurality of dot patterns according to which flushing is to be made on the image area, the number of overlapping dots being a number of dots in the dot pattern of the ink ejected on the image area; and a dot pattern assignor that assigns, according to the number of overlapping dots, the respective dot patterns for use in flushing with the inks of different colors.

Printing apparatus having a head configured to separately eject a first type of liquid to form a background and a second type of liquid to form an image

In a printing apparatus, in a first mode a head ejects a first type of liquid onto a printing medium and an energy applying device applies energy to the first type of liquid to form a background, and subsequently the head ejects a second type of liquid onto the background and the energy applying device applies energy to the second type of liquid on the background so that an image is formed on the background. In a second mode the head ejects the second type of liquid onto the printing medium without forming a background, and the energy applying device applies energy to the second type of liquid. The controller performs setting a quantity of the second type of liquid to be used in the first mode, to be greater than a quantity of the second type of liquid to be used in the second mode.

The droplet discharging head includes: a plurality of nozzles configured to discharge a liquid as droplets; a pressure chamber defining substrate defining a pressure chamber communicating with the nozzles; a piezoelectric element including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a piezoelectric layer containing a perovskite-type composite oxide containing K, Na, and Nb as a main component; and a vibration plate forming a part of a wall surface of the pressure chamber and configured to vibrate by driving of the piezoelectric element. The number of paths n in the multi-path recording, a piezoelectric constant d.sub.31 [m/v] of the piezoelectric element, and a ratio x of a Na molar fraction to a total value of a K molar fraction and the Na molar fraction in the piezoelectric layer satisfy a relationship represented by a formula (1).

Image rendering

There is provided a method for rendering an image according to selected image quality attributes. Two or more image quality attributes are selected from a plurality of attributes of the image. A set of pigments for an area of the image and a density for each pixel of the area are determined. A quantity of pretreatment for deposition onto a print target is determined, where the pretreatment quantity is dependent on the pigments, the density, and the selected image quality attributes.
