Thermosensitive recording medium

The present invention provides a thermosensitive recording medium having a high degree of water resistance and excellent surface qualities. The thermosensitive recording medium has a thermosensitive recording layer comprising a colorless or pale colored basic leuco dye and an electron accepting developing agent on a substrate, but does not have a protective layer on the thermosensitive recording layer, and the thermosensitive recording layer further comprises (i) a carboxy-modified polyvinyl alcohol as a binder, (ii) an epichlorohydrin resin and a modified polyamine/amide resin (excluding those contained in the category of epichlorohydrin resin) as crosslinking agents, and (iii) an acrylic resin with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of lower than or equal to 50 degree C. and a minimum film forming temperature (MFT) of higher than or equal to 40 degree C.

The laminate includes: a base material; an intermediate layer provided on the base material and having an accommodation part; a recording medium provided in the accommodation part; and an overlay layer provided on the intermediate layer. The accommodation part is provided in a part of a plane of the intermediate layer, and the accommodation part is a through hole penetrating in the thickness direction of the intermediate layer or a recess recessed in the thickness direction of the intermediate layer. The recording medium includes a color development layer containing: a coloring compound having an electron donating property; a developer having an electron accepting property; and a matrix resin. The base material, the intermediate layer, and the overlay layer contain the same type of resin material. The base material and the intermediate layer are bonded to each other by fusion, and the intermediate layer and the overlay layer are bonded to each other by fusion.

The thermosensitive recording layer include a compound represented by General Formula (1) and a styreneacryl resin, where, in General Formula (1), R.sub.2 is a C1-12 straight-chain, branched-chain, or alicyclic alkyl group, C7-12 aralkyl group that is substituted with a C1-12 alkyl group, a C1-12 alkoxy group, a C6-12 aryl group or a halogen atom, or a C6-12 aryl group that is unsubstituted or substituted with a C1-12 alkyl group, a C1-12 alkoxy group, a C6-12 aryl group, or a halogen atom, where two or more R.sub.2 may be identical to or different from each other; and A.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group, where two or more A.sub.1, may be identical to or different from each other.

Thermosensitive recording material and method for manufacturing the same

An embodiment of the present invention provides a thermosensitive recording material and a method for manufacturing the same. The thermosensitive recording material includes, on a support, a thermosensitive recording layer containing a polyvinyl alcohol and a color development component; and a protective layer containing a resin component, in this order from the support side. At least one of the thermosensitive recording layer or the protective layer further contains a styrene-isoprene resin.
