Fresnel lens on flexible substrate for packaging and other applications and process therefor
The present invention provides processes (100, 200, 300, 400) for making a flexible packaging substrate having one or more Fresnel lenses (410, 602) and a product made therefrom. The said process comprises providing one or more Fresnel lenses (410, 602) on a first surface (408a, 610a) of a substrate/film (408, 610); and overlapping a predetermined portion (411, 603) of the Fresnel lenses (410, 602) on the substrate/film (408, 610) by printing or foil stamping. The flexible packaging substrate having one or more Fresnel lenses comprises a substrate (408) having the Fresnel lens or the pattern of Fresnel lenses (410) on the first surface (408a) thereof, wherein a predetermined portion (411) of the Fresnel lenses (410) is covered to hide irregular/uneven/torn edges.
DOCUMENT CAPABLE OF GENERATING A COLOR IMAGE
The invention proposes a document configured to generate a color image, comprising: a set of pixels printed on or in a substrate, each pixel forming a pattern including an arrangement of sub-pixels of at least two different colors; and an array of lenses disposed opposite the set of pixels so as to generate the color image by focusing or diverging an incident light through the lenses on at least part of the sub-pixels, each lens being positioned, relative to a facing associated pixel, to focus or diverge the incident light on at least one of the sub-pixels of said associated pixel so as to modify the contribution of the respective colors of the sub-pixels of the associated pixel, in a region of the color image generated through said lens, with respect to the pattern intrinsically formed by the associated pixel independently of said lens.

Method of forming a security device
A method of forming a security device includes a colour shifting element, wherein the colour shifting element provides a first optical effect, the method includes; providing a light control layer over at least a part of the colour shifting element, the light control layer including a functional region and at least one non-functional region, wherein the functional region includes a surface relief adapted to modify the angle of light from the colour shifting element so as to generate a second optical effect different from the first optical effect, and wherein the non-functional region does not substantially modify the angle of light from the colour shifting element, and; wherein the at least one non-functional region is not discernible to the naked eye.
OPTICAL SECURITY ELEMENT
The invention relates to a thin optical security element comprising a reflective or refractive light-redirecting surface having a relief pattern operable to redirect incident light from a light source and form a projected image on a projection surface, the optical parameters of this optical security element fulfilling a specific projection criterion such that the projected image comprises a caustic pattern reproducing a reference pattern that is easily visually recognizable by a person. The invention also relates to a method for designing a relief pattern of an optical security element.

SECURITY INLAY HAVING A UV COATING FOR AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A SECURITY INLAY HAVING A UV COATING FOR AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT
A security inlay having optically recognizable characters for an identity document comprises a first transparent layer and a second transparent layer. A color coating is situated on the first transparent layer. Furthermore, a first UV color coating, which reflects at least UV light at least in a first wavelength range, is situated on the first layer and/or on the color coating. The first and second transparent layers are connected to one another. A first portion of the optically recognizable characters is formed by blackened sections in at least one of the layers. A second portion of the optically recognizable characters is formed by the color coating. A third portion of the optically recognizable characters is formed by the UV color coating. The first and the second portions of the optically recognizable characters reflect visible light. The third portion of the optically recognizable characters reflects UV light.
Rotogravure printing processes for producing optically variable security features
The present invention is related to the filed of optically variable security elements comprising a region based on a single cured ink comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal polymer, said region having at least two, preferably at least three, patterns exhibiting, at at least one viewing angle, a different CIE (1976) color index parameter and/or a different position of the selective reflection band for protecting security documents against counterfeiting and/or illegal reproduction. In particular, the present invention relates to processes for manufacturing said features, when the processes comprises the steps of a) applying on a substrate by a rotogravure process with the use of a gravure cylinder having at least two, preferably at least three, different engravings a single cholesteric liquid crystal precursor composition, b) heating the applied composition to bring said composition to a cholesteric liquid crystal state, and c) curing the composition so as to form the region based on a single cured ink comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal polymer.
