This pneumatic tire includes, on a tread surface, land portions defined by tread edges and by circumferential main grooves extending continuously in the tread circumferential direction; central sipes, in a central land portion on a tire equatorial plane, extending in the tread width direction and formed at a predetermined pitch length, the central land portion being continuous in the tread circumferential direction between adjacent central sipes; and intermediate sipes, in intermediate land portions adjacent to the central land portion on both sides in the tread width direction with the circumferential main grooves therebetween, extending in the tread width direction and being formed at a predetermined pitch length, each intermediate land portion being continuous in the tread circumferential direction between adjacent intermediate sipes. The pitch length of the intermediate sipes is longer than that of the central sipes, and both ends of the central sipes open into the circumferential main grooves.

A pneumatic tire has an asymmetrical tread pattern and a designated vehicle mounting direction. A sipe includes a leading-side edge and a trailing-side edge, each provided with a chamfered portion shorter than a length of the sipe, and a non-chamfered region where other chamfered portions do not exist disposed in an area opposite the chamfered portion. The sipe has a maximum depth x (mm) and the chamfered portion has a maximum depth y (mm) that satisfy x0.1yx0.3+1.0. The sipe has a constant width in a range from an end portion of the chamfered portion positioned inward in a tire radial direction to a groove bottom of the sipe. A groove area of the chamfered portions and the sipes included within a ground contact region is greater on a vehicle mounting inner side than on a vehicle mounting outer side.

A tread surface of a pneumatic tire is configured so that, given an inner region inward from shoulder circumferential main grooves in a tire lateral direction, and outer regions outward from the shoulder circumferential main grooves in the tire lateral direction, blocks positioned in the inner region are defined into three or more small blocks by narrow grooves, and blocks positioned in the outer regions are defined into a number of small blocks by the narrow grooves, the number being at least one less than the number of small blocks defined in the blocks positioned in the inner region. The small blocks including frontmost portions of the blocks in a tire rotation direction are leading-side blocks, and the small blocks including backmost portions of the blocks in the tire rotation direction are trailing-side blocks. The leading-side blocks have a surface area that is less than that of the trailing-side blocks.

A pneumatic tire is provided with a pair of shoulder lands, and each of the shoulder lands has arranged therein shoulder lug grooves and first sipes. The opposite ends of each of the first sipes terminate within a shoulder land, and the outer end of the first sipe in the axial direction of the tire is located on the inside of a ground contact end of the tread in the width direction of the tire. The sum of the lengths of the first sipes provided in the shoulder land located facing the inside of a vehicle when the tire is mounted on the vehicle is greater than the sum of the lengths of the first sipes provided in the shoulder land located facing the outside of the vehicle. The shoulder land located facing the inside of the vehicle is provided with second sipes extending in the circumferential direction of the tire on the inside of the first sipes in the axial direction of the tire.

A pneumatic tire is provided with improved braking performance and turning performance on ice. Circumferential narrow grooves are disposed at a density in the tire width direction of not less than 0.06 grooves/mm and not more than 0.2 grooves/mm. Width direction narrow grooves extend at an angle with respect to the tire width direction of not less than 45 and not more than +45. The circumferential narrow grooves have at least one bent portion. The bend angle of the bent portion is not less than 40 and not more than 160.

A pneumatic tire includes a block pitch length of an outer block row that is greater than a block pitch length of the inner block row. The dimensions in the tire width direction of the regions interposed between two circumferential grooves are smaller in the order of the rib, the outer block row, and the inner block row. The inclined grooves defining and forming the rib open only to the circumferential groove in the vehicle mounting inner side region defining and forming the rib.

Tyre for vehicle wheels having improved tread pattern

Tire for vehicle wheels includes a tread pattern defined by modules arranged circumferentially along the tread, each of the modules including: a) a first slanted transverse groove extending from a first shoulder portion in the first half of the tread to a first end located in the second half of the tread; b) a second slanted transverse groove extending from a second shoulder portion in the second half of the tread to a second end located in the first half of the tread; c) a third slanted transverse groove extending from the first shoulder portion to a third end located in the first half of the tread; d) a fourth slanted transverse groove extending from the second shoulder portion to a fourth end located in the second half of the tread; wherein: e) the first end is substantially located at an intermediate portion of the second slanted transverse groove; and f) the second end is substantially located at an intermediate portion of the first slanted transverse groove of a circumferentially adjacent module.
