A system and method provide automatic vehicle tire air pressure monitoring, warning, and maintenance for a vehicle. The vehicle includes a controller, wheel rims having tires coupled to wheel hubs, an air compressor configured to inflate the tires, a pressure sensor contained within each wheel rim on a vehicle for measuring air pressure within a tire located on each wheel rim, the compressor coupled to the tire rims for providing needed pressurized air, the compressor, an air pressure line connecting the compressor to the wheel rims, a driver display providing a warning to a driver, and a controller. The controller reads an air pressure value of the air pressure within each tire, determines whether the air pressure values within each tire, when one or more of the air pressure values are below the pre-determined value, activates the compressor to add air to each of the four tires needing the air pressure, and provides the driver a visual status of the air pressure values within in each of the tires and a visual status of the compressor state.

An axle assembly for a work vehicle includes: a frame housing; a differential housed in the frame housing; an axle carrier coupled to the frame housing; an axle partially disposed in the axle carrier and coupled to the differential; and a tire inflation pack including: a fixed portion coupled to the axle carrier and comprising a pack fluid inlet that is configured to fluidly couple to a pressurized gas source and a fixed opening holding the axle therein, the fixed portion being configured to allow rotation of the axle in the fixed opening without rotating; and a rotatable portion rotatably coupled to the fixed portion and comprising a pack fluid outlet that is fluidly coupled to the pack fluid inlet and a rotatable opening holding the axle therein, the rotatable portion being fluidly sealed with the fixed portion and configured to rotate with the axle.

Each of the bearings are in contact engagement with the fluid conduit via an inner race, and in pressing engagement with a bearing sleeve via an outer race, the bearing sleeve in pressing contact with the central bore; and a first and second seal, the first seal is disposed between the first bearing and the downstream end of the fluid conduit, and the second seal is disposed between the second bearing and the upstream end of the fluid conduit.

An air inflation system is provided for a vehicle including an axle that supports a wheel and an air supply structure. The air inflation system includes a rotary coupler having a tubular member for communicating with the air supply, a sleeve member connected to an end portion of the tubular member, a bearing receiving the sleeve member, a housing body having a passageway therethrough, wherein the tubular member is received in the passageway, and a housing cap attached to the housing body, wherein the housing cap is provided for communicating with at least one air connection element in communication with the wheel. A first seal for sealing an area between the tubular member and the housing body, and a second seal for sealing an area between the housing body and the housing cap are included. The rotary coupler is provided for supplying air from the air supply to the wheel.

A rotary union assembly for use with a tire inflation system includes a hollow tube configured to deliver air between proximal and distal ends, a bullet having a central axial aperture receiving the tube therethrough, a proximal retaining structure defined on the proximal end of the tube, and a distal retaining structure defined on a distal end of the tube, configured to retain the bullet on the tube therebetween. A cartridge is coupled to a distal end of the tube and includes one or more apertures on a sidewall thereof in fluid communication with the tube. In use, the rotary union assembly is coupled between a non-rotating axle of a vehicle and the rotating hubcap of a tire rotating about the axle and may be removed as a unit for repair and/or replacement of wear parts on the assembly.

The system may include a first temperature sensor including a sensor head configured for mounting within a spindle section of the wheel end assembly, the sensor head in a heat exchange relationship with a bearings of the wheel-end assembly. The system may further include a transmitter disposed on the axle to which the wheel-end assembly is mounted, the transmitter being configured to receive a first sensor signal from the first temperature sensor indicative of a wheel-end temperature and transmit the signal to a receiver. A vehicle data acquisition module may be coupled to the receiver, the data acquisition system being programmed to receive the first sensor signal and process the signal to determine a measured temperature of the spindle.
