20200187474 · 2020-06-18 ·

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for providing a fishing rod and reel assembly with an easily adjustable rod balance adjustment. The system includes a fishing rod having a handle section. Positioned adjacent to the handle section is a reel seat body section along which a reel seat frame may securely hold a reel at substantially any position along the reel seat body section to achieve the desired rod balance. Also, the system and method include being able to securely mount and hold a reel to the rod at any position along the reel seat body to achieve any desired balance point location. Thus, a fisher may change reels, spools, line weights, bait, lures or the like and quickly rebalance the rod and reel assembly for an optimal fishing experience.

Fishing rod

A fishing rod that includes an elongated, tapered rod blank at least a portion of which is quadrilateral in cross section, the quadrilateral portion of the rod blank diminishing in cross-sectional area toward a tip end of the rod blank, the quadrilateral portion of the rod blank comprising a sandwich-structured composite of a core disposed between facings, the core less dense than the facings, the quadrilateral portion of rod blank less stiff in a casting direction than transverse to the casting direction; fishing line guides mounted at intervals along the length of the rod blank; a reel seat mounted at the base end of the rod blank; and a handle mounted at the base end of the rod blank adjacent to the reel seat.

Presently disclosed grip assemblies provide for a selectively removable and replaceable grip for a shaft. Such grip assemblies include a grip sleeve and a grip liner at least partially fixed to an inner grip surface of the grip sleeve. The grip liner is configured to expand as the grip sleeve and grip liner are positioned on the shaft. The grip liner includes a liner feature that engages a shaft feature, which may be integrally formed on the shaft, or may be formed on a shaft sheath on the shaft. Engagement of the liner feature with the shaft feature may align the grip sleeve to the shaft and may substantially prevent rotation of the grip sleeve with respect to the shaft once the grip sleeve is on the shaft. Presently disclosed grip sleeves may be selectively removed from the shaft without damaging the grip sleeve, and without requiring solvents or specialized tools.
