The method includes: determining several candidate protocol configurations; loading the candidate protocol configurations one by one until at least one usable configuration is determined, the usable configuration being a protocol configuration with which a communicable connection with the tire pressure monitoring system can be established; and establishing a communicable connection with the tire pressure monitoring system based on the usable configuration. By applying the method for establishing a communicable connection with a tire pressure monitoring system, a success rate of a diagnostic device entering a tire pressure monitoring system is improved without increasing hardware device costs. Connection errors do not occur frequently, thereby providing better user experience.

Localizing the TPMS sensor module includes measuring a reference phase of the TPMS signal received at the reference reception antenna, measuring a respective shifted phase of the TPMS signal received at each of the at least one additional reception antenna, determining a respective phase shift between the reference phase and each respective shifted phase, and determining a location of the TPMS sensor module based on each determined respective phase shift corresponding to the TPMS signal.

The at least one processing device may be arranged to: calculate a value of at least one reference parameter which may be used in indirect tire pressure monitoring; store the calculated value of said at least one reference parameter in the storage device; retrieve a previously stored value of said at least one reference parameter from the storage device; determine a similarity parameter based on a similarity between the calculated value and the previously stored value of said at least one reference parameter; and determine a tire change status, indicating whether or not the tires have been re-filled or replaced, by comparing said similarity parameter with a threshold.
