The first sensor 2 is provided between the elastic body 3 and the protective sheet 4. The first sensor 2 is a strain sensor and includes a thin film piezoelectric element. The elastic body 3 is made of foamed rubber.

A method of checking tyre pressures using a control device having a wireless communication interface and at least one tyre monitoring device is disclosed. Each tyre monitoring device is mounted on a respective wheel of a vehicle and comprises a wireless communication interface and a pressure sensor for sensing an inflation pressure of a tyre on the respective wheel. The method includes, at the control device: receiving an input and, responsive to the input: identifying a plurality of tyre monitoring devices within a wireless communication range of the control device, wherein the identifying comprises receiving responses from each tyre monitoring device within the wireless communication range, each response including a vehicle identifier associated with a vehicle upon which the tyre monitoring device is installed; selecting a vehicle identifier to be the subject of the request to check a tyre pressure based on the received responses; and sending a request to check tyre pressure to at least one tyre monitoring device associated with the selected vehicle identifier.

A process specific serial forwarder device communicatively links each of the hub sensor assemblies to the system controller. A trailer diagnostic and monitoring application for execution on a remote computing device includes functionality for communicating with the wireless communication device to receive trailer location information, tire pressure readings and axle hub temperatures.

METHOD OF CONFIGURING A NETWORK OF TIRE MONITORING DEVICES

A method of configuring a network of tire monitoring devices using an untrusted device is provided. An untrusted device transmits first configuration data to a first tire monitoring device, and then receives a first input verifying that the first configuration data has been loaded to the first tire monitoring device and matches expected first configuration data. The untrusted device transmits second configuration data to a second tire monitoring device, and receives a second input verifying that the second configuration data has been loaded to the second tire monitoring device and matches expected second configuration data. The untrusted device transmits a command initializing generation of a cryptographic parameter by the first tire monitoring device, and causes the cryptographic parameter to be exchanged with the second tire monitoring device such that secure future communication is established between the first and second tire monitoring devices.

The at least one antenna relays a signal from the integrated RFID and TPMS sensor to the reader. A display device is in electronic communication with the reader to receive and display data from the integrated RFID and TPMS sensor.

A tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensor module as provided herein includes a pressure sensor configured to measure an internal air pressure of a tire and generate tire pressure information; a transducer configured to receive a structure borne sound signal induced by sound waves; a receiver circuit electrically connected to the transducer and configured to detect the structure borne sound signal and generate a detection indication that the structure borne sound signal has been detected; a processing circuit electrically connected to the pressure sensor and the receiver circuit, and configured to receive the tire pressure information from the pressure sensor, receive the detection indication from the receiver circuit, and generate a communication signal in response to receiving the detection indication; and a transmitter electrically connected to the processing circuit and configured to transmit the communication signal.
