ROTARY DAMPER
A rotary damper has a housing, a damper shaft rotatably held on the housing, a damper volume accommodated in the housing and which has a magnetorheological fluid as working fluid, and at least one magnetic field source in order to influence a degree of damping of the rotational movement of the damper shaft relative to the housing. A separating unit connected to the damper shaft divides the damper volume. At least one gap portion, which can be influenced by a magnetic field of the magnetic field source, is formed between the separating unit, which is connected to the damper shaft, and the housing. The housing, the separating unit and the magnetic field source are designed such that a flow cross section for the magnetorheological fluid from one side to the other side of the separating unit changes in dependence on a rotational angle.
Suspension Pre-Load Adjustment System
A suspension system for a vehicle and method for operating the same includes a shock absorber housing having a longitudinal axis, a spring disposed around the shock absorber housing, a retainer collar disposed around the shock absorber housing and an actuator engaged to the retainer collar. The actuator moves at least a portion of the retainer collar to move the spring in a direction corresponding the longitudinal axis. A switch generates a ride height position signal. A controller is coupled to the actuator and the switch. The controller controls a position of the actuator in response to the ride height position signal.
Suspension pre-load adjustment system
A suspension system for a vehicle and method for operating the same includes a shock absorber housing having a longitudinal axis, a spring disposed around the shock absorber housing and a retainer collar disposed around the shock absorber housing. An actuator coupled to the retainer housing moves at least a portion of the retainer housing to move the spring in a direction corresponding the longitudinal axis.
ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED EXTERNAL DAMPER RESERVOIR
An electronically controller external damper reservoir assembly (eRESI) can be connected to a passive damper and/or substituted for an existing external reservoir to provide semi-active damping control. The eRESI includes a reservoir and a variable base valve assembly actuated by an actuator. A controller is in communication with the actuator and a sensor providing input signal indicative of vehicle movement and is programmed to generate a damping control signal to the actuator based on the input signal, to dynamically control the damping force outputted by a passive damper hydraulically connected to the eRESI. A P/T sensor can be installed to a gas chamber of a vehicle damper to generate a P/T signal indicative of the pressure and temperature of the gas. The controller is programmed to determine a damper position of the damper based on the P/T signal.

METHOD FOR MONITORING A STATE OF WEAR OF A DAMPING DEVICE
The invention relates to a method for monitoring a state of wear of a damping device within a system. The system includes a vehicle seat having a first portion which is movably mounted in at least one direction with respect to a second portion, a damping device for damping oscillations is arranged between the first portion and the second portion, and a first sensor that determines an instantaneous relative position of the first portion with respect to the second portion. A displacement function in relation to the relative position of the first portion with respect to the second portion is defined as a function of time, and a current value of the displacement function is determined at selected intervals and summed. The sum is compared with a predetermined first limit.
Damper with electro-magnetic actuator
A damper system for a vehicle is provided that includes an outer tube, a piston rod, and a piston assembly that is mounted to the piston rod and separates the outer tube into first and second working chambers. A valve assembly, mounted to the piston assembly, controls fluid flow between the first and second working chambers. A magnetic rotor is fixed to and extends annularly about the outer tube. A stator assembly is coupled to the piston rod by a spherical bearing assembly. The stator assembly includes a plurality of coils that apply an active damping force to the piston rod when energized. The coils can also generate electricity from axial movements of the piston rod relative to the outer tube. One or more glide bearings are disposed radially between the coils and the magnetic rotor in a sliding fit to stabilize the stator assembly.
METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR SUSPENSION LOCK OUT AND SIGNAL GENERATION
Methods and apparatus for regulating the function of a suspension system are disclosed herein. Suspension characteristics often contribute to the efficiency of a suspended system. Depending on the desired operating parameters of the suspended system, it may be desirable to alter the functional characteristics of the suspension from time to time in order to maintain or increase efficiency. The suspension hereof may be selectively locked into a substantially rigid configuration, and the damping fluid may be phase separated and/or cooled to increase damping rate during use (or offset rate degradation). The suspension hereof may generate power usable to achieve any or all of the foregoing or to be stored for use elsewhere in the suspended system or beyond.
Damper with printed circuit board carrier
An electrically adjustable hydraulic shock absorber includes a piston positioned within a tube that divides a fluid chamber into a first working chamber and a second working chamber. A piston rod is attached to the piston and projects. An electronically-controlled valve is positioned within a rod guide. A circuit board is in communication with the electronically-controlled valve. A carrier includes an inner wall and an outer wall interconnected by a bottom wall thereby defining a pocket. A circuit board is positioned within the pocket.
