Powerplant and related control system and method
A hydrogen fueled powerplant including an internal combustion engine that drives a motor-generator, and has a two-stage turbocharger, for an aircraft. A control system controls the operation of the motor-generator to maintain the engine at a speed selected based on controlling the engine equivalence ratio. The control system controls an afterburner, an intercooler and an aftercooler to maximize powerplant efficiency. The afterburner also adds power to the turbochargers during high-altitude restarts. The turbochargers also include motor-generators that extract excess power from the exhaust.
Hybrid vehicle controller
A hybrid vehicle controller is configured to: upon receiving a predetermined mode switching request, bring a clutch into a half-clutch state to start an engine using rotation of a transmission shaft; and upon determining that the engine has started, shift the clutch from the half-clutch state to a stand-by state and subsequently shift the clutch to an engaged state, the stand-by state being a state which is intermediate between the half-clutch state and a disengaged state and in which drive power of the engine is not transmitted to the transmission shaft.
Using a DC or AC generator as a starter with fault detection
A power generation and starting device for a utility vehicle having a battery source capable of storing electrical energy, a logic/driver module operably coupled to the battery source and capable of outputting power to a drive system of the utility vehicle, an internal combustion engine capable of outputting a mechanical driving force, and a generator system operably coupled to the internal combustion engine and electrically coupled to the logic/driver module. The generator system is capable of operating as a generator in response to the mechanical driving force of the internal combustion engine, thereby outputting electrical energy to the logic/driver module. The generator is further capable of operating as an electric motor in response to input of electrical energy from the logic/driver module to drive the internal combustion engine during startup of the internal combustion engine.
Method for Operating a Hybrid Vehicle
A method is provided for operating a hybrid vehicle after a stationary state of the hybrid vehicle having an electric machine and an internal combustion engine with a circulating oil lubrication system. The electric machine and the internal combustion engine can be operated independently of one another and their output shafts can be operatively connected to one another via a clutch and/or a transmission for a separate or common drive. The method includes: starting the electric machine and starting the hybrid vehicle with pure electric drive; connecting the drive shafts during the electric drive and cranking the internal combustion engine without inputting fuel until a defined oil pressure is built up in the circulating oil lubrication system; uncoupling the output shafts; continuing to operate the hybrid vehicle with pure electric drive until the internal combustion engine is started. By way of the method, all the components of the internal combustion engine are lubricated with oil at the start and the service life of the internal combustion engine is increased.
Control system for hybrid vehicles
A control system for a hybrid vehicle that shift an operating mode to an appropriate mode from a low mode or high mode. The hybrid vehicle comprises a power split mechanism connected to an engine and a first motor. When a required brake torque of a prime mover cannot be achieved during propulsion in an operating mode established by engaging one of clutches while stopping the engine, the control system excites a motoring of the engine by the first motor while maintaining engagement of the clutch engaged to establish the current operating mode.
Methods and system for starting an engine of a hybrid vehicle
Systems and methods for cranking an engine of a hybrid vehicle that includes an electric machine to crank the engine and propel the vehicle are disclosed. In one example, engine cranking speed and engine cranking source are selected in response to vehicle operating conditions that may affect whether or not an electrical power source has sufficient energy to crank the engine.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR COUPLED AND DECOUPLED ENGINE STARTING IN A HYBRID VEHICLE
A system and method for controlling engine starting in a hybrid vehicle having first and second electric machines include starting the engine in response to an engine start request using the first electric machine and releasing second electric machine reserved engine starting torque for use in propelling the vehicle. The first electric machine may be controlled to start the engine in response to the first engine start after key-on and when the vehicle speed is below a corresponding threshold, with the second electric machine used when vehicle speed is above the threshold. The first electric machine may be an integrated starter-generator.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENGINE STARTING IN A HYBRID VEHICLE BASED ON ENGINE STOP POSITION
A system and method for controlling engine starting in a hybrid vehicle having an engine, a first electric machine selectively coupled to the engine by a first clutch, a second electric machine coupled to the engine, a step-ratio transmission selectively coupled to the electric machine by a second clutch include starting the engine using either the first electric machine or the second electric machine based on engine stop position. The first electric machine may be a low voltage starter motor or integrated starter-generator. The system and method may use the first electric machine when the engine stop position is within a specified range of positions relative to a piston top dead center position associated with higher cranking torques.
VEHICLE
A vehicle includes: a low voltage battery constituted by a lithium-ion battery, the low voltage battery supplying an electric power to an electric component mounted to a vehicle; a high voltage battery constituted by a lithium-ion battery, the high voltage battery having an output voltage higher than an output voltage of the low voltage battery; a first rotating electrical machine that operates by an electric power supplied from the high voltage battery, the first rotating electrical machine generating a torque for driving the vehicle; and a second rotating electrical machine for starting the engine. The second rotating electrical machine operates by an electric power supplied from the high voltage battery.
HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME
A hybrid electric vehicle control mode includes receiving traffic light information including signal information and distance information of a traffic light ahead under an EV mode entry condition. The method includes predicting the duration of the EV mode based on the received traffic light information, predicting the temperature of a coolant in the EV mode according to the predicted duration of the EV mode, and comparing the predicted temperature of the coolant with a reference temperature at which a full automatic temperature control (FATC) unit requests starting of an engine. The EV mode is entered when the predicted temperature of the coolant is greater than the reference temperature.
