Axle assembly and contamination self-trapping seal
A seal for an axle assembly can include a support, sealant layer, lip, and flange. The support can include an outer member and a wall. The outer member can extend axially. The wall can extend radially inward from a first end of the outer member. The sealant layer can coat an outer surface of the outer member to form a fluid-tight seal between the outer surface of the outer member and a bore of the housing. The lip can extend radially inward of the wall. The lip can form a fluid-tight seal between the wall and an outer surface of the shaft. The flange can extend radially outward of a first end of the outer member while not forming a fluid-tight seal with the interior bore. The flange and the outer member can define a channel axially between the first end of the outer member and the sealant layer.
VEHICLE TRANSFER
A vehicle transfer includes an input shaft, an output shaft, an output member, a clutch, a motor, a screw mechanism, a transmitting mechanism, a fork shaft, an amplifying link mechanism, a high-low switching mechanism, and a fork. The fork shaft is configured to move in an axial direction of the fork shaft. The amplifying link mechanism is connected to the nut member and the fork shaft. The amplifying link mechanism is configured to amplify an amount of movement of the nut member in the direction of the common axis and transmit the amplified amount of movement to the fork shaft. The fork is connected to the fork shaft. The fork is configured to transmit moving force of the fork shaft to the high-low switching mechanism such that the high-low switching mechanism switches between the high-speed gear and the low-speed gear.
Shift system for power transfer unit using non-contacting position sensor
A two-speed active transfer case is disclosed having a range shift mechanism with a moveable range shift component and a contactless position sensing arrangement for detecting the position of said moveable range shift component.
Transfer case with stationary low range planetary
A transfer case includes an input shaft, first and second output shafts and a planetary gearset having a sun gear, a ring gear and a pinion gear meshingly engaged with the sun and ring gears. A range actuator includes first, second and third range sleeves abutted in series being axially translatable between a first position to provide a drive connection between the input shaft and the first output shaft, a second position providing a direct drive ratio connection between the input shaft and the first output shaft as well as the input shaft and a second output shaft, and a third position to provide a reduced speed drive ratio connection between the input shaft and the first output shaft as well as the input shaft and the second output shaft. The gears of the planetary gearset are not driven when the range sleeves are at the first and second positions.
TRANSFER
A transfer includes an input shaft, an output shaft, an output member, a high-low switching mechanism, a clutch, an actuator, a screw mechanism, a first transmitting mechanism, a cam engaging member, a drum cam, and a second transmitting mechanism. The high-low switching mechanism is configured to change a rate of rotation of the input shaft and transmit a resultant rotation to the output shaft. The second transmitting mechanism is configured to transmit a movement of one of the drum cam and the cam engaging member that is connected to a second shaft to the high-low switching mechanism via the second shaft such that the high-low switching mechanism switches between the high-speed gear and the low-speed gear.
Speed-responsive mechanical range lock for a transfer case
A transfer case for a motor vehicle. An input is rotatable about an axis to receive torque, an output is rotatable about the axis to transmit torque, and a planetary gear set is rotatable about the axis and operatively coupled between the input and the output. A shift sleeve circumscribes and is axially slidably carried along the axis, and a shift sleeve lock is automatically engageable with the shift sleeve responsive to the transfer case exceeding a predetermined rotational speed, to prevent axial movement of the shift sleeve above that speed. A related method is also provided.
Transfer Case Lubrication System with Disengagable Pump
A lubrication system (300) for a transfer case (200) includes a shaft (302) having a lubricant inlet port (306) and a hollow bore (304) for transporting lubricant within the shaft (302), a pump (310) having a pump housing (312) and one or more pumping elements (318) that are disposed in the pump housing (312), and a clutch assembly (330). The clutch assembly 330 has an engaged position, in which rotational force from the shaft (302) is transferred to the one or more pumping elements (318) to cause operation of the pump (310), and a disengaged position, in which rotational force from the shaft (302) is not transferred to the one or more pumping elements (318). An actuator (370, 410) is operable to cause the clutch assembly (330) to move between the engaged position and the disengaged position in response to signals received from a controller (233).

An arrangement of a vehicle is provided having normal transverse engine/transmission normal two-wheel drive operation which can be selectively placed into four-wheel drive operation wherein a pump which powers the coupling or uncoupling can be positioned downstream of a power takeoff unit without utilization of an electrically powered pump or transmission powered pump.
SPEED-RESPONSIVE MECHANICAL RANGE LOCK FOR A TRANSFER CASE
