A surface display unit incorporates an opaque screen and an image panel. The opaque screen is disposed on the front side of the image panel which provides an optical image. The opaque screen generally hides the image panel while the surface display unit is not in use. When the image panel is activated to provide an optical image, the opaque screen provides a suitable level of transparency so that a viewer can observe the optical image with sufficient clarity. The opaque screen can provide optical enhancement, decorative texture, and/or mechanical support.

The second display apparatus may include a second image-display surface. At least one of the first image-display surface and the second image-display surface may perform at least one of extending and bending in response to at least one of a first condition and a second condition. The first condition may be related to that the second image-display surface moves relative to the first image-display surface. The second condition may be related to that a distance between the first image-display surface and the second image-display surface becomes equal to a predetermined length.

Thus, it is possible to alleviate the phenomenon of cover glass warping or unevenness, by dispersing and mitigating the stress generated during the fastening between the set frame and the core plate.

A display device for the interior of a vehicle includes: (i) a display unit, which is designed for optical display of information and has a display element for this purpose and which can be or is arranged in a longitudinal extension direction of the vehicle behind a front row of seats, preferably on a roof lining of the vehicle; (ii) a movement unit, which is designed to move the display unit, in particular with the display element pivoted away from the roof lining of the vehicle, in the longitudinal extension direction, in particular controllably, between various working positions and/or to hold the display unit in a given working position; and (iii) a control unit which is designed to control the movement unit in such a way that the display unit and the display element are arranged at a predetermined first distance or first distance range from an element of the front row of seats.
