Child passenger safety seat emergency cooling and notification system
09937830 · 2018-04-10 ·

A system for detecting hot car seat situations, manually cooling the child in those situations, and facilitating one or more alert notifications is disclosed. An apparatus receives sensor data that it uses to detect the presence of a child in a car seat in a vehicle. Multiple sensors provide added security against false positives. When a child is detected, the apparatus activates a cooling flow of air towards the child if the temperature rises above a threshold. The apparatus waits until the vehicle is not moving and off before initiating notifications to one or more subscribing devices. Once off, and once the temperature of the child further rises or has the air flow on for a period of time, the apparatus sends a notification to the subscribing devices. If the child is not removed within a set period of time, then emergency responders are notified.

CHILD ABANDONMENT MONITOR

A child car seat is provided, comprising a base; a seat coupled to the base; and a sensor device mounted to the base or the seat, the sensor device including a sensor that outputs a measurement signal indicating whether a child is present in the seat, a processor that receives the measurement signal and determines whether a child is present, and a communication circuit that transmits a proximity signal configured for reception by a first mobile device. The proximity signal causes a first alert to be communicated to the first mobile device in response to the first mobile device exceeding a range from the sensor device, and a second alert to be communicated to a second mobile device if, after a threshold amount of time, the measurement signal continues to indicate that a child is present and no response is received in response to the first alert.

OCCUPANT DETECTING SYSTEM

A load detector is capable of detecting a load placed on a seat. A temperature detector is capable of detecting a temperature and located adjacent to the load detector. A correction controller corrects the load detected by the load detector in such a way as to deduct a time change amount of the load from the detected load when a time change amount of the temperature detected by the temperature detector is larger than a predetermined threshold value of the time change amount of the temperature and the time change amount of the load detected by the load detector is smaller than a predetermined threshold value of the time change amount of the load. A determination controller determines a sitting condition on the seat based on the corrected load.

Occupant weight and height estimation

A vehicle classification system includes a processor programmed to determine a seated height and seated weight associated with a vehicle occupant. The processor is further programmed to assign a classification to the vehicle occupant based at least in part on a ratio of the seated weight to the seated height.

LIGHTING DEVICE INDICATING A CONFIGURATION STATE OF A VEHICLE SEAT

Lighting device indicating a configuration state of a seat of a motor vehicle, the lighting device being arranged to illuminate at least one part of the seat as a function of at least one datum relating to the configuration state of this at least one part of a seat relative to a configuration instruction for a given user.

Vehicle Child Detection and Response System

A process is provided that uses a sensor system incorporated into the passenger cabin of a vehicle to detect children and/or pets left unattended and who are therefore at risk of serious injury or death due to heat stroke. If an unattended child or pet is detected, a variety of alerts are issued over time, the escalating nature of the alerts intended to insure a rapid response. After the system has operated long enough to insure that no child or pet has been left behind, the sensor system is automatically placed into a standby mode. In standby mode the sensor system may either be turned completely off in order to minimize off-line power consumption or it may be incorporated into an on-board security system.

System and method for backseat child safety
09908436 · 2018-03-06 · ·

A new approach is proposed that contemplates system and method to backseat child safety in a passenger vehicle by preventing locking of the vehicle in a parked state when at least one of its backseats is occupied. Specifically, one or more backseat sensors are each configured to detect if one of the backseats of the vehicle is occupied by a passenger. Upon accepting signals from the backseat sensors indicating that at least one of the backseat is occupied, a vehicle controller is configured to disallow locking of the vehicle in the parked state. The vehicle controller is configured to only enable locking of the vehicle when a backdoor corresponding to the occupied backseat has been opened as detected by one of a plurality of backdoor sensors, which generates and provides a backdoor signal to the vehicle controller when the corresponding backdoor to the occupied backseat is opened.

RESTRAINT APPARATUS AND METHOD WITH ALERT

In embodiments, apparatuses, methods and storage media (transitory and non-transitory) are described that are associated with providing alerts to a caregiver in a vehicle. In various embodiments, an apparatus may include a first sensor coupled with a restraint to provide a restraint indicator, a second sensor coupled with a securing component to provide an attachment indicator, and an alert module operated by one or more processors to cause a wireless transmitter to transmit an alert signal based at least in part on the restraint indicator and the attachment indicator. In various embodiments, a warning apparatus may include an output device and a warning module operated by one or more processors to activate the output device based at least in part on a wireless alert signal from a car seat in a vehicle that indicates the car seat is in use.

Vehicular occupant determination apparatus

A vehicular occupant determination apparatus includes a load detection portion, an occupant determination portion, an acceleration detection portion, a transition prohibition portion, and a transition permission portion. The transition permission portion detects whether an acceleration increases or decreases a load, and sets a transition permission state even during the transition prohibition state. In the transition permission state, a determination result of a first occupant type is permitted to transit to a determination result of a second occupant type with a smaller load than the load of the first occupant type when the acceleration increases the load, and the determination result of the first occupant type is permitted to transit to a determination result of a third occupant type with a greater load than the load of the first occupant type when the acceleration decreases the load.
