LIGHTING DEVICE FOR A VEHICLE

A control system of a self-driving vehicle (SDV) can process sensor data from a sensor system of the SDV to autonomously control acceleration, steering, and braking systems of the SDV along a current route. Based on the current route, the control system can dynamically determine a set of immediate actions to be performed by the SDV. Based on the set of immediate actions, the control system can generate a set of intention outputs on a lighting strip of the SDV, the set of intention outputs indicating the set of immediate actions prior to the SDV executing the set of immediate actions.

A method comprising optically detecting optical output states of a plurality of light sources of an optical device over a test interval; for each light source, optically detecting that the output state of the light source has changed from a first optical condition to a second optical condition; for each light source, optically detecting that the output state of the light source has changed from the second optical condition to a third optical condition; for each light source, determining a first time interval representative of the first optical condition; for each light source, determining a second time interval representative of the second optical condition; for each light source, determining a third time interval representative of the third optical condition; determining a test result for the device based on a comparison of the first, second and third time intervals with pre-stored time intervals.

Lighting device for a motor vehicle

The invention relates to a lighting device for a motor vehicle, comprising a light guide for the totally reflecting guidance of light from two light sources along a light propagation axis, wherein the light from one light source can be coupled in at an in-coupling face on one end face of the light guide and the light from the other light source can be coupled in at another in-coupling face on another end face of the light guide. The light guide also has an out-coupling face arranged along the light propagation axis for coupling the light out, which light exits from the light guide at an exit face arranged along the light propagation axis where the total reflection condition is removed. The lighting device according to the invention is characterized in that the light guide is designed in such a manner that the light intensity distribution of the light from at least one light source exiting at the exit face has a gradient in the propagation direction of the light from the light source concerned, and a control device for the light sources (is provided in such a manner that, when the lighting device is switched on, the light sources are activated at a predefined switch-on time interval and thereby the brightness of at least one light source is modified on the basis of a ramped or stepped progression until a predefined brightness value is achieved.

VEHICULAR LIGHTING APPARATUS

Provided is a vehicular lighting apparatus which is relatively small, can be manufactured at low cost, is superior in mountability to an automobile, and is superior in recognizeability of an object illuminated by a head lamp. The vehicular lighting apparatus attachable to a front end part of a vehicle includes: a composite lens element that is a light guide element constructed by molding a translucent resin substantially into a plate-like shape; a planar light-emitting unit that emits illumination light; an optical system that transforms planar light from the light-emitting unit into linear light and that causes the linear transformed light to be incident on a rear side face of the light guide element; and a diffraction lens formed on the rear side face of the light guide element on which the linear transformed light is incident, and condensing the linear transformed light. The light condensed by the lens means is emitted from a front side face of the light guide element onto a road surface in front of the vehicle. The light-emitting element emits whit light including red light.
