Bumper reinforcing assembly

A vehicle front end includes a bumper and a carrier attached to the bumper. A plurality of fins are movably attached to the carrier and are spaced from each other. The fins taper in a direction transverse to the bumper. The fins may be moved to a deployed position to reinforce the bumper to improve low-speed damageability of the bumper, and may be moved to an inactive position, which may allow a fascia to more easily deform relative to the deployed position to provide energy absorption for pedestrian impacts.

Pedestrian Protection Device for a Motor Vehicle

A pedestrian protection device for a motor vehicle, for example for a motor vehicle front end or a motor vehicle rear end, has a bumper crossmember with a deformation element arranged on the outer side thereof, i.e. the side directed towards the front. In particular, the deformation element is arranged between a bumper skin and the bumper crossmember. The deformation element has a first element and a second element which are displaceable relative to one another in the event of a collision. Furthermore, the pedestrian protection device has a locking mechanism which, in dependence on a displacement speed, and thus on a collision speed, of the motor vehicle, and while exploiting a mass inertia of a locking element which is arranged or mounted on the first element or the second element, is adjustable between a locked state in which a displacement of the first element relative to the second element is at least partially prevented by, in particular, positive engagement, and an unlocked state in which a displacement of the first element is allowed.

The invention concerns a bumper unit for a motor vehicle, with a bumper cross-member which is connected to a vehicle structure via a crumple element. To provide a bumper unit which has optimal crash behavior on frontal impacts both with small overlap and with larger overlap, according to the invention it is provided that a deformation element is arranged on the bumper cross-member outside of the crumple element with a deformation portion running obliquely relative to a vehicle longitudinal axis X, towards and spaced from the vehicle structure. It is proposed that the deformation element has a rearward running connecting portion which is connected to the bumper cross-member and a center portion running towards the outside from the connecting portion and adjoining the deformation portion.

VEHICLE FRONT PORTION STRUCTURE

A vehicle front portion structure includes a front side member, a bumper portion, a bumper guard and an up-and-down extension portion. The front side member extends in a vehicle front-and-rear direction. The bumper portion is provided at the vehicle front side of the front side member and extends in the vehicle width direction. The bumper guard is formed in a pipe shape, and is provided at the vehicle upper side of the bumper portion. The up-and-down extension portion extends in a vehicle up-and-down direction. A lower portion of the up-and-down extension portion is joined to the bumper portion and is attached to the front side member via a crush box. An upper portion of the up-and-down extension portion protrudes upward of the bumper portion and is connected to the bumper guard.

Device for absorbing kinetic energy, in particular for installing in a motor vehicle

A device for absorbing kinetic energy includes a first stationary component and a second component that can be moved in relation to the first component, wherein at least one of the components converts energy by plastic deformation when a certain force level is exceeded, and comprising a coupling apparatus, which operatively connects the first component and the second component in such a way that the two components can be moved in relation to each other only with low energy conversion when the coupling apparatus is not activated and forces can be transmitted from one component to the other component when the coupling apparatus is activated. The movable component has a deformation element, which initially deforms in the event of a crash, so that a movement of the movable component occurs only thereafter, wherein the coupling apparatus is continuously in engagement with the two components and thus continuously produces a first low coupling force level and, when the coupling apparatus is activated, the coupling forces are increased from the first low coupling force level to a high coupling force level and plastic deformation of at least one component occurs.

Vehicular impact absorbing member

A vehicle shock absorbing member, which has a tubular shape having a plurality of flat plate-shaped sidewalls and having a closed section, in which, of the plurality of sidewalls, each of a pair of sidewalls located on right and left sides and separated from each other in a lateral direction of a vehicle has a groove portion formed extending in an axial direction of the tubular shape so as to be recessed inward, which is disposed between a vehicle body-side member and a bumper member in such an attitude that the axial direction corresponds to a longitudinal direction of the vehicle, and which, when subjected to a compressive load, is crushed like an a bellows in the axial direction to absorb impact energy, a pair of flat plate-shaped partition walls being formed in the tubular shape integrally with the tubular shape so as to be separated from each other in a vertical direction and so as to couple the pair of sidewalls, and the upper partition wall being tilted downward and the lower partition wall being tilted upward such that an interval between the pair of partition walls decreases closer to an inner side of the vehicle in the lateral direction of the vehicle.

Arrangement for Absorbing Kinetic Energy
