Extendable bumpers for vehicles
A vehicle includes a body portion, an opening defined by the body portion, and an extendable bumper that is positioned in the opening and is moveable with respect to the body portions between an extended position and a retracted position. The extendable bumper includes an inflatable structure that causes movement of the extendable bumper between the retracted position and the extended position in response to inflation and deflation of the inflatable structure.
Bumper arrangement for the front region of a passenger car
A bumper arrangement of a passenger car has an upper and a lower load path. A spring element is provided on the transverse support of the lower load path, which, in the event of a collision of a pedestrian with the passenger car, exerts an additional force on the lower leg of the pedestrian, so as to support the movement of the pedestrian in the direction of the front hood of the passenger car.
Pedestrian protection system for a motor vehicle
A pedestrian protection apparatus for a motor vehicle front end has a leg-contacting segment which, in a pre-impact position, is arranged completely above an approach plane of the vehicle (which is defined by way of a front approach angle of the motor vehicle), and can be adjusted into a post-impact position by means of a force deflecting apparatus by way of at least proportionally vertical deflection of an impact force which acts along the longitudinal direction. In a post-impact position, the contact segment is arranged at least partially below the approach plane and lower than a bumper crossmember.

BUMPER DEVICE FOR AN AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLE
An automotive vehicle includes a vehicle body, a bumper beam coupled to the vehicle body, and a fascia coupled to the vehicle body and extending about the bumper beam. The vehicle further includes an expansion member coupled to the bumper beam and disposed between the bumper beam and the fascia. The expansion member has an initial position with respect to the bumper beam and a deployed position with respect to the bumper beam. In the initial position the expansion member presents a first frontal height and in the deployed position the expansion member presents a second frontal height. The second frontal height exceeds the first frontal height and a bumper beam height. The expansion member is configured to deploy from the initial position to the deployed position in response to contact by the fascia.
Deployable and smart car bumper
A system for protecting an automobile from a collision. The system including: a bumper having one or more bumper segments disposed on the automobile for absorbing at least some energy of the collision; and one or more actuators for deploying the bumper when conditions indicative of an impending collision is detected; wherein the one or more actuators comprise: one or more hydraulic actuators; one or more pneumatic actuators; one or more actuators actuated by one or more detonation charges; one or more fluid-filled bellows; one or more compressively pre-loaded springs; and one or more actuators connected to rotatable joints of links in a linkage.

Unmanned transport vehicle
According to one embodiment, an unmanned transport vehicle includes a vehicle body, a connector, a bumper, and a bumper driver. The vehicle body includes a moving mechanism and a moving mechanism driver. The moving mechanism driver is configured to drive the moving mechanism. The connector is at the vehicle body and connectable to a transport-object. The bumper is adjacent to the vehicle body in a first direction. The bumper includes a collision detection sensor. The bumper is extendable and contractible in a second direction. The second direction intersects the first direction. The bumper driver is configured to extend and contract the bumper in the second direction by moving at least a portion of the bumper in the second direction.

Device for protecting the bumper of a vehicle and method of use
A device for protecting the bumper of a vehicle having an undercarriage includes a bumper protector which is connectable to the undercarriage of the vehicle. The bumper protector includes a cushion which is positionable to (1) a retracted position beneath the undercarriage of the vehicle, and (2) an extended position outwardly projecting from the vehicle. In the extended position the cushion is rotatable to an upright position adjacent to the bumper of the vehicle. The cushion protects the bumper during a collision with another vehicle or object.
