OCCUPANT DETECTION METHOD AND OCCUPANT DETECTION APPARATUS
An occupant detection method includes detecting a load acting on a seat for a vehicle with use of a load sensor provided at the seat, monitoring a seating sensor output outputted from a seating sensor forming a detection region at the seat, and determining that a child occupant is seated at a child restraint seat installed at the seat when a detection value of the load sensor is equal to or larger than a minimum value determining that an adult occupant is seated at the seat and equal to or smaller than a maximum value determining that the child occupant is seated at the child restraint seat, in a case where the seating sensor output indicates a state in which a seating load of an occupant is not applied to the detection region, the seating load corresponding to a load of the occupant while the occupant is seated.
Air bag for oblique crash protection
An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag configured to be mounted on a vehicle steering wheel. The airbag includes an inflatable main chamber configured to cover the steering wheel, and an inflatable lateral chamber configured to cover a vehicle A-pillar. The apparatus also includes a tether actuation unit and a tether connected to the tether actuation unit and to a portion of the airbag that helps define the lateral chamber. The tether actuation unit has an unactuated condition maintaining a connection with the tether that restricts deployment of the lateral chamber. The tether actuation unit also has an actuated condition releasing its connection with the tether and causing the lateral chamber to fully deploy.
TECHNIQUES FOR DEPLOYING VEHICLE AIRBAG SYSTEMS WITH PRIMARY AND AUXILIARY AIRBAGS
Airbag systems for use in a vehicle that is operable in a manual-steering mode or an automated-steering mode are provided. In one embodiment, an airbag system includes a primary airbag installed in a dashboard of a vehicle. The primary airbag is configured to be deployed when a collision event is detected, and, when deployed, the primary airbag is configured to protect a person seated in a driver seat of the vehicle. the airbag system also includes an auxiliary airbag configured to be deployed when the collision event is detected. During operation of the vehicle in a manual-steering mode, the deployment of the auxiliary airbag is configured to reduce contact between the primary airbag and a steering wheel of the vehicle when the primary airbag is deployed from the dashboard.
METHOD FOR OPERATING A RESTRAINT SYSTEM, AND RESTRAINT SYSTEM FOR A VEHICLE
The present disclosure relates to a method for operating a restraint system having at least one airbag, wherein a head position of a vehicle occupant relative to a reference point in the vehicle is continuously defined. The distance between the head of the vehicle occupant and the at least one airbag in the idle state is determined from the defined head position of the vehicle occupant. The determined distance is evaluated by a comparison with stored reference values and at least one triggering size of the at least one airbag is determined on the basis of the comparison. When the restraint system is triggered, triggering signals corresponding to the at least one triggering size are transmitted to the at least one airbag, as well as to a corresponding restraint system for a vehicle.
AIRBAG
An airbag, in particular a front airbag, includes an outer wall having a front wall and a rear wall (18, 24) and a tether (16) as well as an electrically actuatable activation unit (26) for releasing the tether (16). The tether (16) includes plural tether portions (30, 32) connected to each other via a first tear seam (36). A tension means (40) is coupled to the tether (16) so that it destroys the first tear seam (36) when the activation unit (26) is actuated.
Method and system for verifying the correct deployment of an airbag device
A computer-implemented method for checking the correct deployment of an airbag device comprises, in a vehicle or test vehicle model, optionally arranging a dummy or model of a vehicle occupant in the vicinity of the airbag device, triggering the deployment of the air chamber of the airbag device, taking at least one image of a scene including the air chamber at a plurality of discrete times following the triggering of its deployment and verifying the volume of inflation and/or deployment of the air chamber at the plurality of discrete times following the triggering of its deployment on the basis of the at least one image.
Occupant protection device
An occupant protection device for a vehicle includes a collision detector, a main airbag, a belt airbag, a belt controller, a distance detector, and an airbag controller. The collision detector detects a collision of the vehicle. In response to the collision detector detecting the collision, the main airbag deploys from a storage position toward an occupant seated on a seat of the vehicle. The belt airbag is stored in a seatbelt. The belt controller controls winding of the seatbelt, extraction of the seatbelt, and prohibition of the extraction of the seatbelt. The distance detector detects a distance from the storage position to the occupant. When the collision detector detects the collision of the vehicle and the detected distance is equal to or greater than a predetermined distance, the airbag controller deploys the belt airbag from within the seatbelt without causing the belt controller to prohibit the extraction of the seatbelt.
CONTROL DEVICE FOR A GAS GENERATOR FOR CONTROLLING A VOLUMETRIC FLOW, AND IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPERATING A CONTROL DEVICE OF THIS TYPE
A control device for a gas generator for controlling a volumetric flow of a fluid, which is stored under pressure, for filling an airbag of a motor vehicle, with a valve arrangement. To reduce a response time of a main valve piston, the valve arrangement has a means for controlling a fluid pressure in a control chamber, wherein the means for controlling a fluid pressure is configured to bring or hold the fluid pressure in the control chamber to/at a pressure which lies in a predefined tolerance range around an activation pressure of the main valve piston.
Automotive side airbag and method of operating same
Proposed is an automotive side airbag including: an inflator ejecting gas when operating; an air cushion expanded and unfolded forward from a side of a passenger by the gas ejected from the inflator; and a diffuser disposed in the air cushion, supplying the gas ejected from the inflator to the air cushion, and having a discharge hole formed across a direction in which the air cushion is unfolded by the supplied gas.
