ADAPTIVE SIDE AIRBAG FOR PROTECTING OCCUPANTS IN A VEHICLE
An apparatus for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle includes an airbag configured to be mounted to a seat back of a vehicle seat. The airbag is inflatable between the seat back and an adjacent side structure of the vehicle to one of a first deployed condition in which the airbag is configured for a non-reclined condition of the vehicle seat, and a second deployed condition in which the airbag is configured for a reclined condition of the vehicle seat. The airbag is configured to deploy to the first deployed condition in response to determining a non-reclined condition of the vehicle seat and to the second deployed condition in response to determining a reclined condition of the vehicle seat.
PASSENGER PROTECTION APPARATUS
A passenger protection apparatus for a vehicle includes first and second airbags, an airbag deployment device, a collision speed detector, a passenger's Position detector, a seat moving unit, an airbag deployment determination unit, and a deployment controller. The first airbag is deployable in different sizes. The second airbag is deployable between the first airbag and vehicle equipment. The airbag deployment device deploys the airbags. The collision speed detector detects a collision or collision possibility of a vehicle, and calculates a collision speed. The passenger position detector detects a position of a passenger sitting on a seat. The seat moving unit moves the seat. The airbag deployment determination unit determines a size of the deployed first airbag. The deployment controller determines an amount of movement of the seat, causes the seat moving unit to move the seat, and causes the airbag deployment device to deploy the airbags.
PASSENGER PROTECTION APPARATUS
A passenger protection apparatus for a vehicle includes a first airbag configured to deploy from a front part of the vehicle toward a passenger, a second airbag provided under the first airbag and configured to deploy toward the passenger, and a collision type detector configured to detect a collision or collision possibility of the vehicle and detect a collision type. The collision type detector detects a first type of collision and a second type of collision. The second airbag deploys in a first deployment configuration when the first type of collision is detected, and deploys in a second deployment configuration when the second type of collision is detected. The second airbag deployed in the second deployment configuration contacts an in-vehicle component provided in a vehicle compartment, and the second airbag in contact with the in-vehicle component guides the first airbag in a direction in which the collision load is applied.
AIR-BAG APPARATUS
An air-bag apparatus includes: a frame member that is tiltable along a seat back of a vehicle seat; and a bag body that is embedded in the frame member, that is inflated and expanded to a front of an occupant seated on the vehicle seat at a time of an impact input, and that prevents a body of the occupant from being separated from the seat back.

An air-bag apparatus includes: a bag body that is provided on a vehicle seat and that is inflated and expanded at a time of an impact input and prevents at least an upper part of a body of an occupant seated on the vehicle seat from being separated from a seat back of the vehicle seat; an inflator that supplies a gas to the bag body at a time of an impact input; a body size detection part that detects a body size of the occupant seated on the vehicle seat; and an expansion degree adjustment part that adjusts a degree of an inflation expansion of the bag body in accordance with the body size of the occupant detected by the body size detection part.
AIRBAG ASSEMBLY HAVING AN AUGMENTED INFLATABLE AIRBAG CUSHION
An airbag system having an airbag control module configured to detect a direction of impact of a vehicle, an airbag assembly having an airbag cushion with an internal tether, and a tether adjustment mechanism. The tether adjustment mechanism is in communication with the airbag control module and engagement with the tether. The airbag control module is configured to send a signal to the tether adjustment mechanism to adjust the tether by ratcheting a portion of the middle segment of the tether when the airbag cushion deploys such that one of a first tether length and a second tether length is extended and the other of the first tether length and the second tether length is contracted to provide a larger volumetric capacity of the airbag cushion in the direction of impact.
AIRBAG ARRANGEMENT
An airbag arrangement (3) for a vehicle (1). The airbag arrangement comprises an inflatable airbag (5) and an external extension control member (7) being operatively associated with said airbag. The airbag is adapted to be inflated in a longitudinal direction (x) of the vehicle to a position between an interior portion (13) of the vehicle in front of a seated vehicle occupant (17) and an upper body region (19) of the seated vehicle occupant. The external extension control member has a selectable operative length (l.sub.o). The external extension control member controls deployment of the airbag by means of the selectable operative length. The present disclosure also relates to a vehicle comprising the airbag arrangement and a method for deploying an airbag of the airbag arrangement.
OCCUPANT PROTECTION DEVICE
An occupant protection device includes: an airbag which is deployed and inflated rearward from an accommodation part so that the airbag receives the occupant when inflation gas flows in, the airbag having an inflation completion shape of a loop shape including an upper and lower portions which branch up and down from an inflow opening side and a rear portion which is a mutual connecting part between rear ends of the upper portion and the lower portion as a confluence part on a tip end side. The airbag includes: a bag main body including the upper portion, the lower portion, and the rear portion; and a connecting member having flexibility which is disposed between the upper portion and the lower portion and connects the upper portion and the lower portion so as to regulate a separation distance between the upper portion and the lower portion when inflation is completed.

A system includes an airbag including a first lobe, a second lobe, a first tether connected to the first lobe, and a second tether connected to the second lobe, a seat rotatable relative to the airbag from a first position to a second position, and a computer programmed to, based on whether the seat is in the first position or the second position, release one of the first tether or the second tether.
