A slip-controllable vehicle brake system includes a brake circuit to which a master brake cylinder is connected to a wheel brake. The connection between the brake circuit and the master brake cylinder is controlled by a changeover valve. To supply the wheel brake with pressure medium, the brake circuit has a pressure generator that is externally driven and interacts with a pressure build-up valve of the wheel brake. The brake system includes a pressure pulsation damping device with a pulsation damper and a resistor which forms a flow cross-section. The pressure build-up valve and/or the changeover valve is continuously adjustable and steplessly switched from an open position into a blocked position. The flow cross-section of the resistor is actualized by an electronic triggering of the pressure build-up valve or the changeover valve such that it is variably adjusted to changing environmental or operating conditions.

A damping device, for example for damping pressure pulses in a brake circuit of a slip-controllable hydraulic vehicle brake system, includes a damper chamber with a pressure medium volumetric capacity, which can be varied in a pressure-dependent manner, and a flow resistor connected downstream thereof. Disadvantageously, the pressure medium volumetric capacity of the damping device is not available for the brake pressure build-up when the brake pressure is generated by the driver, and the pedal travel on a brake master cylinder of a vehicle brake system is therefore lengthened. A mechanism limits the pressure medium volumetric capacity of the damping device in the case of a passive braking operation. In the case of partially active or fully active braking operations, in contrast, the mechanism has no effect and the full scope of the pressure medium volumetric capacity of the damping device is available for damping pressure pulses.

A slip-controllable vehicle brake system includes a drivable pressure generator configured to supply at least one wheel brake of a brake circuit with pressure medium. The pressure generator has a pump inlet valve and a pump outlet valve to control the throughput of the pressure medium. Novel system functions, such as pedestrian protection, require that the pressure generator has a drive with increased power to provide high pressure medium volumes to the wheel brakes at a faster rate. In the case of ABS braking, a high braking pressure generated by the drive works against the starting of the pressure generator and increases the starting current. To ease the starting of the drive and to limit the required starting current, a mechanism is provided downstream of the pump outlet valve which prevents an exerting of the pressure generator on the pressure side with the pressure of the main brake cylinder.
