Furthermore, the speed parameter is estimated in accordance with a state of the electric motor vehicle, and a feedforward torque is calculated on the basis of the estimated speed parameter. When accelerator operation amount is not larger than a predetermined value and the electric motor vehicle stops shortly, the motor torque command value is converged to zero on the basis of the feedback torque and the feedforward torque with a reduction in the traveling speed.

The control system, in dependence on the gradient and speed information, automatically causes a braking system (12d) to apply brake force to one or more of the wheels (111, 112, 114, 115) to prevent vehicle rollback, and adjusts the amount of brake force applied in dependence on the drive demand information (161S) to cause the amount of brake force applied to increase progressively as the amount of drive demand decreases.

In some examples, the method may further include learning a torque output of the electric machine required to maintain the zero vehicle speed upon fully releasing the clutch or service brake. In an example, the method may include estimating a road grade based on the learned torque output.
