Vehicle steering assistance apparatus and method

In a steering assistance apparatus mounted in a vehicle, a steering input device and a turning device differentiate at a transmission ratio that is a ratio of an amount of change in the turning angle to an amount of change in the steering angle. A turning device actuator actuates the turning device. A controller executes an automatic steering mode, in which the controller determines the turning angle based on at least one of a travel condition and travel path information of the vehicle and controls the turning device actuator so as to achieve the determined turning angle. If detecting an input variation from the steering input device during execution of the automatic steering mode, the controller changes the transmission ratio to a value less than the transmission ratio in the automatic steering mode and prioritizes a manual steering mode over the automatic steering mode.

A vehicle steering apparatus. The durability of a sensor rotor to heat and abrasion is improved. The flatness of the sensor rotor is prevented from being lowered during calking for coupling of the sensor rotor to a steering shaft so that steering torque of a driver can be more accurately detected. A fabrication process is simplified, and fabrication costs are reduced.

MACHINE STEERING ANGLE CONTROL SYSTEM

A machine is disclosed. The machine may comprise a steering device configured to move along a steering position range in response to a force applied on the steering device by a machine operator. The steering device may have at least one soft stop position along the steering position range. The machine may further comprise a biasing member mechanically coupled to the steering device and configured to apply an opposing force that opposes movement of the steering device when the steering device is at or beyond the soft stop position. A magnitude of the opposing force may be sufficiently low such that the machine operator can move the steering device past the soft stop position. The machine may further comprise an electronic control device configured to determine the soft stop position based on one or more operation conditions of the machine.

A steering angle calculation circuit of an ECU includes a neutral point calculation circuit, a correction amount calculation circuit, an adder, and an absolute angle calculation circuit. When started, the neutral point calculation circuit calculates a motor neutral point from a steering angle detected through a steering sensor and a motor rotation angle detected through a relative angle sensor. The correction amount calculation circuit calculates a correction angle that is a difference between a conversion value and an actual value of the motor rotation angle with respect to the steering angle. The conversion value is obtained by converting the steering angle in terms of the motor rotation angle by taking into account a theoretical specific stroke. The adder calculates a final motor neutral point by adding the correction angle calculated by the correction amount calculation circuit to the motor neutral point calculated by the neutral point calculation circuit.

STEERING CONTROL APPARATUS AND STEERING CONTROL METHOD

A steering control apparatus for a steering system includes a controller. The controller sets a limit value to less than or equal to a steering angle limit value, the limit value being an upper limit of an absolute value of a torque command value, and controls a motor such that a motor torque follows the torque command. When the absolute value of a rotation angle of a rotary shaft exceeds a steering angle threshold, the controller computes a damping control amount such that the damping control amount increases with an increase in an excess of an angular velocity of the rotary shaft over a first upper limit angular velocity. The controller computes the torque command value based on a value obtained by combining the basic command value and the damping control amount such that an absolute value of the basic command value is reduced.
