Drag reducing systems for tractor-trailer combination vehicles are provided. In one aspect, a drag reducing assembly generally includes a stowable mud flap rotatably coupled to a mounting bracket and a linkage. The linkage is configured to transition the mud flap between a first, deployed position, to a second, stowed position. The mud flap is generally positioned adjacent a wheel and tire of the vehicle, downstream of airflow. In the first position, the mud flap may be deployed at an angle of about 90 to the ground. In the second position, the mud flap may be stowed at an angle of about 90 from the first position.

Conformable mud flap

A mud flap assembly includes a flexible elongated spine to which protective scales are permanently or removable attached in a spaced apart array with an overlapping configuration. An attachment, such as an adhesive, magnets, or weatherstrip is fixed to the spine. The attachment secures the spine to a flange or edge of a fender of a vehicle.

A vehicle with deployable pliable fairing skirts and a controller for controlling deployment of the skirts are provided. The pliable fairing skirts are deployable over openings of wheel wells for the vehicle to provide additional streamlining for the vehicle. The pliable fairing skirts are stowable when the brakes of the vehicle may benefit from additional cooling airflow. The skirts are also stowable when environmental conditions may result in damage to the skirts or when steerable wheels of the vehicle would protrude from the opening.
