SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATED OPERATION AND HANDLING OF AUTONOMOUS TRUCKS AND TRAILERS HAULED THEREBY
A system and method for operation of an autonomous vehicle (AV) yard truck is provided. A processor facilitates autonomous movement of the AV yard truck, and connection to and disconnection from trailers. A plurality of sensors are interconnected with the processor that sense terrain/objects and assist in automatically connecting/disconnecting trailers. A server, interconnected, wirelessly with the processor, that tracks movement of the truck around and determines locations for trailer connection and disconnection. A door station unlatches/opens rear doors of the trailer when adjacent thereto, securing them in an opened position via clamps, etc. The system computes a height of the trailer, and/or if landing gear of the trailer is on the ground and interoperates with the fifth wheel to change height, and whether docking is safe, allowing a user to take manual control, and optimum charge time(s). Reversing sensors/safety, automated chocking, and intermodal container organization are also provided.
MOTOR STALL AND TRAILER LIFT
A device and method operated thereby may control a hydraulic pump to pump a hydraulic fluid into a chamber of a piston coupled to a fifth wheel of the tractor to raise the fifth wheel. The device, and method operated thereby, may sense, at intervals as the fifth wheel rises, a pressure value of the hydraulic fluid in the chamber. The device, and method operated thereby, may process the pressure values to determine when the landing gear is lifted off the ground.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AUTOMATED OPENING OF TRAILER DOORS
This invention provides a station for opening trailer swing doors that uses a sled with a manipulator arm and associated end effector/tool to perform the unlocking of the trailer lock rod, swinging open of the door, holding the door in the opened position and applying an resilient/flexible/springy retention clip thereto. The sled moves into and out of a confronting position relative to the trailer rear/doors to allow that trailer to drive into or out of the station at the beginning or end of the task. Closing of doors can also be performed at the station in the reverse order of steps. The door retention clip can be adapted with features that allow it to perform the various opening and closing tasks herein. The station can include tracks for guiding the sled between a non-interfering and interfering position with respect to the path of travel of the truck/trailer.
Shunt truck positioned trailer stand
A trailer stand positionable by a shunt truck is disclosed. The trailer stand includes a leg assembly having a front pair of legs and a back pair of legs, the front pair of legs connected by a front cross support and the back pair of legs connected by a back cross support, a wheel assembly having a wheel assembly frame that has a first end and a second end, the first end connected to the back pair of legs, the second end retaining an axle, the axle rotatably retaining at least two wheels, a stepped assembly having a front end, a back end, a top, and a bottom, the front end connected to the front cross support, the back end connected to the back cross support, the top of the stepped assembly providing a plurality of landing areas for an end of the semi-trailer, and a lifting frame.
Determining effective trailer wheelbase length
Systems and methods for estimating a length of at least a portion of a trailer that is carried by a tractor. The tractor has a fifth wheel coupling that is configured to be connected to a kingpin of the trailer. The height of the fifth wheel coupling is adjustable by adjustment of an angle of a boom that carries the fifth wheel coupling. The angle of the boom is determined by a sensor. The angle of the trailer is determined by a sensor. The length of at least a portion of the trailer is calculated based on the boom length, the determined boom angle, and the determined trailer angle.
Methods and devices for vertically positioning a fifth wheel hitch assembly
A fifth wheel hitch plate assembly adapted to be mounted to a vehicle frame includes a hitch plate component coupled to the frame by a vertical lift component. In one implementation, the vertical lift component includes at least four linkages that are pivotally connected to the hitch plate component and pivotally connected to the vehicle frame, wherein the four linkages operate, together with one or actuating members, to elevate a fifth wheel hitch plate assembly in a vertical or substantially vertical path, i.e., a path substantially perpendicular to the vehicle frame.
Robotized tractor unit
A robotized tractor unit comprises a frame and a housing, an axle mounted on the frame, at least two main wheels mounted on either side of the axle, at least one electric engine arranged to drive the wheels to rotate through transmission, a braking system, a fifth wheel, a mechanism for damping and adjusting the position of the fifth wheel, a control system, wherein the mechanism for damping and adjusting the position of the fifth wheel comprises a first and a second support elements and a first and a second independently controlled pneumatic units. The design of the present invention provides for the reliable damping of the fifth wheel, the simplifying of its coupling to a semi-trailer, allowing for towing the semi-trailer at any design height, as well as ruling out a forward or rearward semi-trailer displacement force during lifting the fifth wheel, when the tractor unit is braked.
