A trailer lock can be used as an anti-theft device to secure a mating feature of a trailer, such as a king pin, against unauthorized hookups by tractors. The trailer lock can include a base plate for mounting on a wall of the trailer; a swing bar pivotally connected to the base plate; and an engagement bar pivotally connected to the swing bar, which engagement bar includes an engagement feature, such as a ring, capable of fitting to the mating feature of the trailer. When the engagement feature is fitted to the mating feature of the trailer (for example, when a ring is placed over a king pin), it can prevent the mating feature from engaging a corresponding mating feature of a tractor, such as a fifth wheel.

Method for locking and releasing a securing device of a vehicle coupling, theft prevention system, and vehicle

A method for locking and releasing a securing device of a vehicle coupling of a vehicle includes switching the securing device between a locked state and a released state by a control command output by an authorization unit where the authorization unit outputs the control command after receiving an initiation command transmitted to the authorization unit by an interface and where a wireless communication interface and a local physical interface are useable as the interface. Sensor data, generated by a sensor that monitors surroundings of the vehicle, is transmitted via the wireless communication interface to a control center. The initiation command is transmitted to the vehicle by the control center via the wireless communication interface as a function of the sensor data. When there is no communication connection between the control center and the vehicle, it is only possible to output the initiation command via the local physical interface.

Kingpin Locking System
20170021877 · 2017-01-26 ·

A kingpin locking system for securing a kingpin on a trailer to a tractor is provided. The system comprises a C-shaped member having a main body portion, a first jaw portion, and a second jaw portion. A first spring member is mounted between the center portion and the first jaw portion with the first spring member allowing the first jaw portion to move in a general direction toward and away from the second jaw portion. A key mechanism activates a locking mechanism to lock the first and second jaw portions together and deactivates the locking mechanism to unlock the first and second jaw portions. Upon positioning the C-shaped member about the kingpin and moving the first jaw portion into contact with the second jaw portion, the key mechanism activates the locking mechanism thereby securing the first and second jaw portion together and securing the trailer to the tractor.
