Systems and methods for automated operation and handling of autonomous trucks and trailers hauled thereby
A system and method for operation of an autonomous vehicle (AV) yard truck is provided. A processor facilitates autonomous movement of the AV yard truck, and connection to and disconnection from trailers. A plurality of sensors are interconnected with the processor that sense terrain/objects and assist in automatically connecting/disconnecting trailers. A server, interconnected, wirelessly with the processor, that tracks movement of the truck around and determines locations for trailer connection and disconnection. A door station unlatches/opens rear doors of the trailer when adjacent thereto, securing them in an opened position via clamps, etc. The system computes a height of the trailer, and/or if landing gear of the trailer is on the ground and interoperates with the fifth wheel to change height, and whether docking is safe, allowing a user to take manual control, and optimum charge time(s). Reversing sensors/safety, automated chocking, and intermodal container organization are also provided.
Adapter arrangement for a semitrailer train arrangement
An adapter arrangement, in particular fifth wheel adapter arrangement, for a semitrailer train, comprising a base body, a coupling arrangement, in particular a fifth wheel coupling plate, and a king pin, wherein the king pin is fixed indirectly and/or directly to the base body, wherein in particular the coupling arrangement is stationary relative to the king pin.
Mechanized gladhand
The present technology describes systems and methods for a mechanized gladhand and an end effector. The mechanized gladhand may have a collar capable of rotational motion while the mating surface may be in contact with a second surface without rotating. This may reduce reaction loads while maintaining the integrity of the connection. The end effector may include a drive motor, clasping tool, and/or driving installed tool that may be used to couple a tool with the gladhand or may be used in other applications. The end effector may have a compact design to allow precise control. The movement of the end effector with the gladhand may be controlled based on image processing to align the tool with another component.
AUTOMATIC COUPLING SYSTEM
A fine-alignment coupling system for coupling a trailer and a towing vehicle includes a housing including a first plate and a second plate coupled to one another; a connector carriage within the housing and configured to move relative to the housing along a first direction, the connector carriage including: a first connector head including a plurality of electrical connection terminals and a pneumatic terminal; and an actuator fixedly coupled to the housing and configured to move the connector carriage relative to the housing along the first direction.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATED OPERATION AND HANDLING OF AUTONOMOUS TRUCKS AND TRAILERS HAULED THEREBY

Systems and methods for automated operation and handling of autonomous trucks and trailers hauled thereby
This invention provides a system and method for reliably interconnecting a native gladhand on a trailer with an AV truck, in which the gladhand can vary in placement and type on the trailer front. A visually guided robot manipulator arm accesses the trailer front. The arm includes an end effector assembly that is arranged to visually navigate to the gladhand and engage the gladhand by latching onto a gladhand using a connection tool that includes a hinged gladhand/wedge capture assembly and a pressurized clamping connection plate that selectively engages the trailer gladhand seal. The capture assembly is arranged to accommodate different gladhand geometries in latching thereonto. The connection tool includes a hinge that is spring-loaded in both a locked and unlocked bistable state, and sensors monitor the state. The system can include passive or active compliance elements that accommodate moderate misalignment between the engaged gladhand and the robotic arm/connection tool.
DEVICE FOR AUTOMATICALLY ESTABLISHING CONNECTIONS BETWEEN A TRACTOR VEHICLE AND A TRAILER VEHICLE, AND A SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREFOR
A device for automatically establishing electrical and pneumatic connections between a towing and a trailer vehicle, including a pneumatic cylinder having a vehicle end configured for connecting to a part of the towing vehicle, and having a plug connector end configured for connecting to a plug connector unit. The pneumatic cylinder has a coupling and a release state and a piston of the pneumatic cylinder is extended further out of a cylinder of the pneumatic cylinder in the coupling state than in the release state. The device includes a valve arrangement configured for connecting a first chamber of the pneumatic cylinder to a compressed air supply to shift from the release state to the coupling state, and configured for connecting a second chamber of the pneumatic cylinder to the compressed air supply to shift the pneumatic cylinder from the coupling state to the release state.
Automatic tractor trailer coupling
A system for automatically coupling the air and electrical lines of a tractor to a trailer. A trailer coupling head is mounted to the trailer and carries air line and electrical connectors. A fifth wheel coupling height control system is configured to automatically control the height of the tractor's fifth wheel coupling, to control the height of the trailer coupling head. A tractor coupling head carries air line and electrical connectors that are configured to be operably coupled to the mating connectors of the trailer coupling head. A tractor coupling head carrier removably carries the tractor coupling head. A tractor coupling head carrier control system moves the tractor coupling head carrier toward and away from the trailer coupling head along a longitudinal axis. The tractor coupling head can be clamped to and carried by the tractor coupling head carrier or the tractor coupling head can be clamped to the trailer coupling head.
Torque-limiting end effector
The present technology describes systems and methods for a mechanized gladhand and an end effector. The mechanized gladhand may have a collar capable of rotational motion while the mating surface may be in contact with a second surface without rotating. This may reduce reaction loads while maintaining the integrity of the connection. The end effector may include a drive motor, clasping tool, and/or driving installed tool that may be used to couple a tool with the gladhand or may be used in other applications. The end effector may have a compact design to allow precise control. The movement of the end effector with the gladhand may be controlled based on image processing to align the tool with another component.
