The rotatable locking member including a U-shaped receiving portion arranged such that in an unlocked position the locking pin may be moved into and out of the U-shaped receiving portion, and in a locked position the locking pin is not able to be moved out of the U-shaped receiving portion, and the rotatable locking member is configured to be moved between the unlocked and locked position by rotational movement around the longitudinal central axis of the locking pin.

Aircraft with a foldable wing tip device

An aircraft including a wing and a wing tip device is disclosed. The wing tip device is moveable between a flight configuration for use during flight and a ground configuration for use during ground-based operations. In the ground configuration the wing tip device is folded inwardly from the flight configuration such that the span of the aircraft is reduced. The wing tip device is connected to the wing along a hinge axis by spar beams of the wing tip device, one of the beams being mounted for pivoting about a fixed axis and the other beam being mounted on a spherical bearing to provide greater freedom of movement. Various actuator arrangements may be provided to pivot the wing tip device.

AIRCRAFT WING WITH DISPLACEABLE WINGLET

A wing having a main wing section with a forward spar and an aft spar extending through an internal cavity. The forward and aft spars are spaced apart and delimiting a dry segment of the internal cavity. A winglet is rotatably coupled to the main wing section by a cant hinge defining a cant axis about which the winglet rotates relative to the main wing section between an extended position in which the winglet is aligned with the main wing section, and a folded position in which the winglet is rotated about the cant axis. A linkage assembly disposed in the dry segment is pivotably mounted to one of the forward and aft spars and is coupled to the cant hinge. The linkage assembly is displaceable to apply a force to move the winglet between the extended position and the folded position during flight of the aircraft.

Aircraft wing with aileron

An aircraft wing having a fixed wing with a wing tip device. The wing tip device is movable between a flight configuration for use during flight, and a ground configuration for use during ground-based operations. The wing has a master flight control surface associated with the fixed wing and a slave flight control surface associated with the wing tip device. An interface between the master flight control surface and the slave flight control surface is arranged to provide a rigid connection between the master flight control surface and slave flight control surface when the wing tip device is in the flight configuration. Moving the master control surface about a control axis causes the slave control surface to be moved about the control axis. The interface is arranged to de-couple the slave and master control surfaces when the wing tip device is moved from the flight configuration into the ground configuration.

Wing tip device attachment apparatus and method

A method of assembling a wing tip device to a wing of a powered aircraft including: providing a wing tip, providing a wing tip device, pivotably attaching the wing tip device to the wing at a first position, pivoting the wing tip device about the first position, and attaching the wing tip device to the wing at a second position spaced from the first position.

Short take off and landing aircraft with adjustable vortices device

An improved aircraft system is provided. The improved aircraft system comprises an adjustable vortices device that may be attached to an aircraft to create various vortices effects, which increase take-off weight and improve low-speed handling of the aircraft. The adjustable vortices device comprises a linear actuator, a pivot mechanism, and a vortex generator. The pivot mechanism is operably connected to the linear actuator in a way such that the translational energy of the linear actuator causes the pivot mechanism to rotate about a central axis. The vortex generator is moveably attached to a surface of the aircraft and coupled to the pivot mechanism in a way such that rotating the pivot mechanism causes the vortex generator to rotate about a central axis, which alters the angle the vortex generators move through the air.

Shape adaptive airfoil

An apparatus and method are provided for a shape adaptive airfoil configured to be coupled with a tip of an airplane wing. In one embodiment, the shape adaptive airfoil is a blended winglet comprised of a base section coupled with the airplane wing, a blade section projecting in a vertical direction above the base section, and a radius section interconnecting the base and blade sections. Adaptive control structures may be incorporated into leading and trailing edges of the base section and the blade section. The adaptive control structures of the base section may facilitate changing a camber profile of the shape adaptive airfoil. The adaptive control structures of the blade section may enable changes to a toe angle of the blade section.

An actuator assembly for moving an aircraft wing tip device is disclosed. The wing tip device is rotatable about a hinge axis relative to a fixed wing of the aircraft. The hinge axis is orientated non-parallel to a line-of-flight direction of the aircraft. The actuator assembly includes a primary shaft having an axis of rotation orientated substantially parallel to the line-of-flight direction, a motor to cause rotation of the primary shaft, and a secondary shaft orientated substantially parallel to the hinge axis. The secondary shaft is couplable to the primary shaft and is arranged to rotate the wing tip device in response to the rotation of the primary shaft.

CLUTCH FOR USE IN ACTUATING A WING TIP DEVICE
20200208687 · 2020-07-02 ·

A clutch for use in actuating an aircraft wing tip device is disclosed. The clutch includes first and second friction members each having a frusto-conical friction surface, and a third friction member arranged coaxially with, and between, the first and second friction members. The third friction member has first and second frusto-conical friction surfaces. When the clutch is engaged, the first and second friction surfaces of the third friction member are brought into contact with the friction surfaces of the first and second friction members, respectively. The clutch also includes spacer means operable to separate the friction surfaces from one another when the clutch is in a disengaged state.
