PURIFICATION OF TOBACCO-DERIVED PROTEIN COMPOSITIONS
The disclosure describes methods for the purification of protein-enriched extracts to provide concentrates and isolates and methods for incorporation of such materials into products. The purification methods are adapted for removal of nicotine and may have other benefits, e.g., lightening the color of the protein-enriched extracts. The methods generally include treatment with peracetic acid or hydrogen peroxide and filtrations. A protein composition in the form of a concentrate or isolate is provided, the protein composition including RuBisCO, F2 fraction proteins, or combination thereof extracted from a plant of the Nicotiana species, wherein the protein composition is characterized by relatively low nicotine content.
METHOD AND MEANS FOR AN ISOLATION OF MEMBRANE-BOUND PROTEINS FROM A BIOLOGICAL SAMPLE, PREFERABLY PROCESSED PLANT SEED MEAL
The present invention provides the method and means for an efficient isolation of membrane-bound proteins from biological samples, e.g. in samples from raw or processed plant material, preferably defatted plant seed meal such as canola meal. The biological sample can be highly processed, e.g. by applying high temperature, pressure, or a chemical treatment and can be derived from seed matrices as well as other typical plant tissues for example seed, grain, leaf, root, or pollen. The invention comprises the provision of a novel extraction buffer (MEB) and its application in the method of the invention, wherein the buffer has a strong alkaline pH of 10 to 12.5 and comprises a soluble concentration of detergent at a level of 0.5% to 5%.

METHOD OF PRODUCING RuBisCO PROTEIN FIBERS
Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate oxygenase (RuBisCO) protein fibers and a method of producing them are disclosed herein. The method of producing one or more RuBisCO protein fibers including obtaining RuBisCO, for example from tobacco, combining the RuBisCO with one or more plasticizers, heating the combination of the RuBisCO and the one or more plasticizers up to about 140 degrees C., filtering the heated combination through an about 20 m filter, and passing the filtered combination through an orifice to produce one or more RuBisCO protein fibers.
METHOD FOR SEPARATION OF PROTEINS FROM PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS
A method for separation of proteins, particularly plant proteins, from salts and phenolic compounds in a liquid comprising said proteins dissolved in said liquid is provided. The method includes a step of subjecting said liquid to a first cross-flow membrane filtration process wherein the first salts and at least a portion of the phenolic compounds migrate across the membrane into a first permeate and the proteins are retained in a first retentate; followed by a step of adding water, or one or more second salts and water to the first retentate, while continuing the membrane filtration process, to create a diafiltrate containing at least a portion of said phenolic compounds and the added second salts.

PLANT-DERIVED PROTEIN PURIFICATION
The disclosure describes methods for the purification of protein-enriched extracts to provide concentrates and isolates and methods for incorporation of such materials into products. The purification methods are adapted for removal of, e.g., chlorophyll and may thus provide lightening the color of the protein-enriched extracts. The methods generally include treatment with peracetic acid or hydrogen peroxide and filtrations. A protein composition in the form of a concentrate or isolate is provided, the protein composition including RuBisCO, F2 fraction proteins, or combination thereof extracted from a plant material.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR THE PRODUCTION OF NON-RUMINANT ANIMAL FEED
A method for the production of non-ruminant animal feed from plants and/or plant parts of the family of Poaceae includes the steps of: harvesting plants and/or plant parts; extracting protein and fructan from said plants and/or plant parts; separating protein for feeding non-ruminant animals; and separating fructan for feeding non-ruminant animals. The fructan stimulates bacterial growth and protein production in the large intestine of the non-ruminant animals and reduces the concentration of amino acid catabolites in the large intestine.
