A frangible hinge is formed between a lid hinge segment extending outwardly from the lid rim and a base hinge segment extending outwardly from the base rim. The lid hinge segment includes at least one thumb rest that is positioned, sized and shaped to receive the thumb on a user's hand. The thumb rest has a counterpart finger rest located on the base hinge segment that is positioned, sized and shaped to receive a finger on the user's hand while the thumb of the same hand is in contact with the thumb rest. The frangible hinge is configured to rupture when the container is in the initially sealed arrangement by the application of a pushing force to the thumb rest and a contemporaneous pulling force to the finger rest.

The first coupling unit includes a coupling trough. A cover includes a concave groove having a bottom and an outside surface engageable with the step section to close the opening. The second coupling unit has a coupling member receivable in and engageable with the coupling trough. Tearing off the first and second perforation lines allows the first and second coupling units to detach from the tray and the cover, respectively with the second protrusion section projecting outside the tray for easy gripping.

The container has a lid with an edge extending peripherally outward therefrom which is configured to mate with the tub edge to close the container. The lid edge has an inner portion and an outer portion with a perforated section therebetween. The perforated section extends continuously around the entire periphery of the lid, whereby the outer portion forms a tamper-evident seal removable from the inner portion for removing the lid from the tub.

A tamper-evident container formed by thermoforming includes a tub having a bottom and a sidewall forming an interior volume. The container has a lid with an edge extending peripherally outward therefrom which is configured to mate with the tub edge to close the container. The lid edge has an inner portion and an outer portion with a perforated section therebetween. The perforated section extends continuously around the entire periphery of the lid, whereby the outer portion forms a tamper-evident seal removable from the inner portion for removing the lid from the tub. Texture elements are distributed around the outer portion of the lid edge which are configured to provide a visual indication of the presence of the tamper-evident seal. The tub edge is disposed beneath the outer portion of the lid edge and extends peripherally outward so that a substantial part of the outer portion of the lid edge does not extend below the tub edge in a vertical direction of the container in an upright orientation. A tab extends from the outer portion of the lid edge and below the tub edge in the vertical direction of the container.

The upper peripheral rim extending substantially about the perimeter of the container and configured to substantially surround the outwardly extending peripheral flange of the cover portion to render the outwardly extending peripheral flange of the cover portion relatively inaccessible when the container is closed. The container includes a hinge joining the cover portion to the base portion. The vertical height of the hinge correlates with the height of the skirt that depends downwardly from the base portion when the height of the skirt is substantially uniform around the perimeter of the container. The hinge includes a frangible section including at least one line of weakness which, when severed, facilitates removal of the cover portion from the base portion.

A tamper evident and resistant container includes a tray, a cover and a hinge extending from the cover and tray defining a hinge axis about which the tray and cover relatively rotate between a closed position and an opened position. The container further includes a first tab provided on one of the cover or the tray and at least partially defined by a line of weakness. When the cover is in the closed position, a user may pull the first tab to tear the hinge to separate the cover from the tray, wherein the line of weakness at least partially defining the first tab is configured to tear when the first tab is pulled to tear the hinge to separate the cover from the tray.
