The present invention is directed to flexible or semi-flexible closed package (1) for containing an ingredient for preparing an edible product in a food or beverage preparation machine, said package comprising: (i) flexible or semi-flexible lateral walls (2) that form a flatten package body, and (ii) a cup-shaped bottom portion (3) adapted to the insertion of a fluid injection element of the machine, the package (1) being formed from a one-piece elongated primary flat blank sheet (5) made of flexible material, that is folded in a U-shape around its transversal symmetry axis (Lx), and sealed along its lateral (4) and upper (34) edges, wherein said cup-shaped bottom portion (3) is a hollow volume having a concave lower side (7) and convex lateral sides (8), and the profile curvature of said lower side (7) being identical to the profile curvature of each of said lateral sides (8).

The disposable container (11) comprises an axially extending injector element (20), which can be coupled to the at least one coupling element (18, 26) or is formed integrally therewith in such a way that at least one first distal portion of the injector element (20) extends within the internal volume (16). The first dispensing element (51) and the at least one coupling element (18, 26) of the disposable container (11) are configured for mutual coupling, and the hydraulic circuit (40) can be controlled for conveying pressurized hot water and/or steam to the first dispensing element (51), for the corresponding injection into the internal volume (16) of the disposable container (11) through the injector element (20).

A capsule for holding ingredients for the production of a beverage has a capsule body, which is at least partly covered on a top side of the capsule by a cover and which surrounds a first chamber for holding a first ingredient. In addition, the capsule has a chamber wall, which surrounds a channel-shaped cavity, which extends from the top side of the capsule to a bottom side of the capsule. The capsule further has a valve element, with which a first outlet opening of the first chamber can be opened at the chamber wall by a rod inserted into the cavity from the top side of the capsule, so that the ingredients can flow from the first chamber via the cavity and out of the capsule at the bottom side of the capsule.

The drive shaft may be configured to engage or disengage with the top shaft of the pod owing to the linear movement of the drive motor in vertical direction. Upon engaging with the tops shaft of the pod, the drive shaft may be further configured to impart rotary motion to the top shaft.
