Capsule containing a substance for the preparation of a potable beverage, the capsule having an aluminum capsule body having a side wall and an outwardly extending flange and a sealing member at the outwardly extending flange for providing a fluid sealing contact with an enclosing member of a beverage preparation device. The beverage preparation device comprises an annular element having a free contact end which may be provided with a plurality of radially extending open grooves. The sealing member is integral with the outwardly extending flange and comprises a projection. An annular trough between the inner projection foot and the side wall has a bottom axially spaced from the outer projection foot towards the bottom of the capsule body.
A METHOD OF FORMING A CUP-SHAPED BODY FOR A BEVERAGE CAPSULE
A method of forming a cup-shaped body for a beverage capsule comprising the steps of: a) in a first stage drawing a sheet of material into a cup-shaped body preform; and b) in a second stage transforming the cup-shaped body preform into the cup-shaped body; wherein after the first stage the cup-shaped body preform comprises a base and a preformed side wall which extends from the base to a rim; wherein the preformed side wall comprises: an outwardly-extending step proximate the rim; a primary side wall section extending between the base and the outwardly-extending step; and a secondary side wall section extending between the outwardly-extending step and the rim; wherein in the second stage the preformed side wall is deformed such that the cup-shaped body comprises the base and a side wall which extends from the base to the rim; wherein the side wall comprises: an annular trough; a first side wall section extending between the base and the annular trough; and a second side wall section extending between the annular trough and the rim.
CAPSULE AND SYSTEM FOR PREPARING A BEVERAGE BY CENTRIFUGATION IN A BEVERAGE PRODUCTION DEVICE
A capsule is designed for insertion in a centrifugal beverage production device for preparing a beverage from a substance contained in the capsule by introducing liquid in the capsule and passing the liquid through the substance using centrifugal forces. The capsule includes a body having a bottom end and an open end spaced apart in the axial direction, an upper wall for covering the body at the open end along a direction transverse to the axial direction, and an enclosure between the body and the upper wall containing a predetermined amount of beverage substance. The capsule further includes an annular pressure-setting ring configured for adjusting the backpressure in the beverage production device. The pressure-setting ring provides an improved coffee in-cup quality. A set of capsules can have pressure-setting rings of different dimensions for setting different backpressure when engaged in a centrifuging beverage production device.

The beverage preparation device comprises an annular element having a free contact end which may be provided with a plurality of radially extending open grooves. The sealing member is integral with the outwardly extending flange and comprises at least one projection projecting from the outwardly extending flange. The projection comprising a projection top and is configured such that its projection top exerts a radial force on the free contact end of the annular element if the capsule is positioned in the enclosing member of the beverage preparation device and the enclosing member is closed by means of a closing member of the beverage preparation device.

CAPSULE FOR BEVERAGE PREPARATION WITH INTEGRALLY FORMED SEALING MEMBER
The invention relates to a capsule (10) designed for preparing a beverage upon injection of liquid into the capsule by means of a beverage preparation machine. The capsule (10) comprises a cup-shaped base body (1) for holding beverage preparation ingredients and a flange-like rim (2) with a sealing member (3) comprising an inner and an outer series (4,5) of arc-shaped protrusions (4a,5a), wherein the base-body (1), the flange-like rim (2) and the sealing member (3) are made integrally from metallic material such as aluminum, in which the inner and outer series (4,5) of the sealing member (3) are concentrically arranged on a surface (2a) of the flange-like rim (2) such as to form an annular space (6) there-between for receiving a sealing surface (21a) of a capsule engagement member (21) of the beverage preparation machine (20). The respective arc-shaped protrusions (4a,5a) of the inner and outer series (4,5) are continuous protrusions with circumferentially extending gaps (4b,5b) formed there-between, wherein the respective arc-shaped protrusions (4a,5a) of the inner and outer series (4,5) are arranged such as to circumferentially overlap outside the circumferentially extending gaps (4b, 5b) of the inner and outer series (4, 5) in side view of the capsule, and wherein the arc-shaped protrusions (4a,5a) of the inner and outer series (4,5) are locally connected together by at least one bridging element (8) positioned proximate to each circumferentially extending gaps (4b, 5b) of the inner and outer series (4, 5).
BEVERAGE CAPSULE
A capsule for use in a coffee machine having a brew chamber, which capsule is formed from a ductile metal such as aluminium. The capsule has a generally frusto-conical form with an upper surface and a lower surface, an annular flange being provided at the lower surface. An annular seal is provided on the annular flange having first and second layers, wherein the first layer comprises long, well-bound fibres of a cellulose material.

A capsule (100) for preparing a beverage is described, comprising: a containment volume (110) comprising a side wall (111) and an upper closing portion (112) which are configured so as to house a product in said containment volume (110); a projecting edge (120) configured so as to project from the lower end of said containment volume (110) along a direction that is perpendicular with respect to the axis (Ax1) of said capsule (100), wherein said projecting edge (120) comprises an upper surface (121) facing the upper closing portion of said containment volume (110); said upper surface (121) of said projecting edge (120) comprises a spiral-shaped ridge (122) which winds about the axis (Ax1) of the capsule, performing a plurality of revolutions.
PREPARATION SYSTEM FOR EXTRACTING A PRODUCT CONTAINED IN A CAPSULE
The preparation system has a capsule 11 which is provided with a conical side wall 13, a first end 13a of which has a larger outer diameter than the second end 13b. The capsule 11 is provided at the first end 13a with an outwardly projecting flange 15 to which a foil 19 is attached which foil closes the capsule. The preparation device 1 has a pressure cylinder 3 which is slid over the capsule 11 and presses the flange 15 against a counter plate 5. The pressure cylinder has to be liquid-tight in contact with the capsule. The outer diameter of the first end 13a of the side wall 13 of the capsule being larger than the inner diameter of the pressure cylinder 3. When the pressure cylinder is slid over the capsule, the capsule will compress in the axial direction, such that the deformed part of the side wall 13 forms a liquid-tight seal between the capsule 11 and the pressure cylinder 3.
