The present invention relates to a method of increasing a measure of a production trait in a non-ruminant animal by administering a red seaweed of Asparagopsis species to the animal.

Food compositions and methods for preventing copper-associated hepatopathies

A pet food containing naturally occurring copper that can be used as a prophylactic diet to prevent and/or reduce copper storage disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, adverse gastrointestinal food reactions, and/or food allergies in pets is provided. A method for forming this pet food containing naturally occurring copper includes: providing a formula selected from the group consisting of chicken meal, corn gluten, duck, rabbit, venison, fish, peas, potato, barley, rice, corn, and any combinations thereof; and adding one or more ingredients having a naturally occurring copper source to provide a naturally occurring copper concentration in the pet food composition from about 7.3 ppm to about 25.0 ppm, adjusted for a dry matter basis.

REDUCING THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF FARMING USING BIOCHAR

A method for using treated biochar to reduce the overall environmental impact of farming and minimize the carbon footprint of farms is provided. The method comprising engaging in one or more of the following practices: (1) combining treated biochar with feed or using biochar as feed for animals to reduce methane from enteric fermentation and increase animal health and nutrition; (2) combining treated biochar with compost, animal bedding or manure piles to reduce odor and increase nutrient retention; (3) applying treated biochar to lagoons to reduce odor and treat water; (4) applying treated biochar to pastures to increase pasture health; (5) applying treated biochar to crops to increase crop productivity, healthier roots and prevent fertilizer leaching; and (6) using the carbon negativity of a produced biochar to reduce the overall farm or ranch carbon footprint.

METHOD AND COMPOSITION FOR IMPROVED HYDRATION IN ANIMALS

The present invention discloses oral isotonic compositions to provide hydration to mammals in need, comprising a prebiotic oligosaccharide or fructo-oligosaccharide and at least three members of the group consisting of steviol glycoside, citric acid monohydrate, glutamic acid, monosodium glutamate and glycine.

FORMULATIONS OF FUNCTIONAL ADDITIVES AND METHOD FOR ENCAPSULATING SAME IN A HYDROPHOBIC MATRIX

The present invention is related to the inclusion of dehydrated and encapsulated functional additives formulations in food matrices.

For the encapsulation of the additives, molten hydrophobic mixtures of fatty acids and longchain saponified fatty acids were used under simple encapsulation techniques that require minimum residence times and early solidification.

These specific mixtures of coating materials and the manufacturing process confer physical and chemical resistance to the formulated additives, which allows their use as functional ingredients in industrial processes, such as the production of balanced foods, concentrated foods, dry or wet foods, for humans or animals; where extrusion, baking or pelletizing processes are used, without the additives losing their viability and activity.

IRON-CONTAINING COMPOSITION

An iron-containing composition containing ferric pyrophosphate, a polyhydric alcohol, gum arabic, and gum ghatti, wherein the content of the polyhydric alcohol is from 93 to 630 parts by mass, based on 100 parts by mass of the ferric pyrophosphate, and wherein a total amount of gum arabic and gum ghatti is from 15 to 23 parts by mass, based on 100 parts by mass of the ferric pyrophosphate, and wherein a mass ratio of the content of the gum arabic to the content of the gum ghatti (gum arabic/gum ghatti) is from 0.01 to 0.5, and wherein the ferric pyrophosphate has a volume-average particle size of 0.20 μm or less. The iron-containing composition of the present invention can be used in foodstuff, feeds, cosmetics, pharmaceutical compositions, and the like.

Oral formulations are described which can be used as dietary supplements on a daily basis to effectively prevent plaque formation in the oral cavity in addition to providing immune protection mediated by enhancing saliva secretions.

Aptamers for mycotoxin detoxification

Mycotoxin-deactivating aptamers, especially DNA aptamers, bind to mycotoxins in feed and feed ingredients resulting in the reduction or elimination of toxic and carcinogenic effects of mycotoxins. The invention also discloses a composition comprising a mycotoxin-deactivating aptamer, a binding agent, a biotransforming agent and an antioxidant for detoxifying mycotoxins in feeds. In addition, the invention teaches the methods of preparing the mycotoxin-deactivating aptamer-based composition and also the methods of using it as a feed additive. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of the mycotoxin-deactivator/s alone, or in a composition comprising the aptamers and other mycotoxin-detoxifying agents, in feeds and feed ingredients for detoxifying the major mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, fumonisins and ochratoxin A.

Energy-efficient solvent-free method for producing metal chelates

The invention relates to a method for producing, amongst other things, amino-acid and/or hydroxycarboxylic-acid metal chelates, a solvent-free mixture of at least one metal oxide, metal hydroxide, metal carbonate or oxalate, and the solid organic acid is subjected to intensive mechanical stress. According to the invention, this is done in that the reaction partners are introduced in particle form into a fluid stream of a fluid-bed countercurrent mill operating without grinding elements, wherein mechanical activation of at least one of the reaction partners is effected by collision processes within a reaction chamber formed in a region of the fluid stream, and a solid body reaction to form the metal chelate is triggered. The novel method operates very energy-efficiently and with a high specific yield. It leads to a product having compact particles in the small, single-digit micrometer range having a comparatively narrow particle sizc distribution and a large surface. The product is homogenous and very pure. Thermal loading or decomposition of the organic chelate ligands, in particular of the amino acids, is likewise avoided, as are contaminants from milling and grinding element abrasion.
