Pet supplement
A method of making a supplement for a pet. The method mixes an aqueous protein solution with supplements. Once the supplements have been mixed into the aqueous protein solution, a fat constituent is introduced and mixed into the solution. The solution is then cooled and stored. After a predetermined period of time, the mixture is reheated and a thickening agent is introduced into the mixture.
REDUCED METHIONINE DIET FOR DOGS
A diet composition for an adult dog is provided. The composition comprises a combination of methionine and cysteine or a cysteine providing derivative thereof; wherein methionine is present in a low amount sufficient to deliver between 32.3 and 82.7 mg/Kg metabolic body weight (Kg.sup.0.75) when standardized to a 15 Kg dog, and wherein the cysteine or cysteine providing derivative thereof is present in an amount such that the weight ratio of methionine:available cysteine is from 1:0.8 to 1:1.5. The diet may additionally contain other additives such as taurine. Diets of the invention contain sufficient methionine to support metabolism and may prolong lifespan while minimizing the risk of taurine deficiency. Methods for preparing diet compositions of the invention are also described and claimed, as are methods of enhancing longevity and/or treating or preventing dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs.
METHODS OF ENHANCING PALATABILITY AND/OR REDUCING SUGAR IN WET PET FOODS
A method of making a wet food formulated for administration to a pet includes incorporating at least one of spinach or tomato into the wet food in an amount effective to enhance palatability of the wet food and/or reduce added sugar in the wet food. The method may include producing the wet food as a chunks-in-gravy composition and may include one or more of the following steps: (i) producing the gravy by a process comprising adding spinach to one or more other ingredients of the gravy; (ii) producing the gravy by a process comprising adding tomato to one or more other ingredients of the gravy, and preferably also incorporating free form cysteine into in the gravy; and (iii) producing the chunks by a process comprising adding both spinach and tomato to one or more other ingredients of the chunks. The method may include producing the wet food as a loaf composition, preferably by incorporating both spinach and tomato into the loaf composition.

WET PET FOODS HAVING AT LEAST ONE OF ENHANCED PALATABILITY OR REDUCED SUGAR PROVIDED BY AT LEAST ONE OF SPINACH OR TOMATO
A wet food is formulated for administration to a pet and contains an amount of at least one of spinach or tomato effective to enhance palatability of the wet food and/or reduce sugar in the wet food. The wet food may be a chunks-in-gravy composition which may have at least one of the following formulations: (i) at least a portion of the at least one of spinach or tomato includes spinach in the gravy; (ii) at least a portion of the at least one of spinach or tomato includes tomato in the gravy, and preferably the gravy further includes free form cysteine in addition to the tomato in the gravy; and (iii) at least a portion of the at least one of spinach or tomato includes spinach and tomato both included in the chunks. The wet food may be a loaf composition which may include both spinach and tomato.
