Animal feed material
A feed material for livestock is effective in prevention and/or treatment of pathogenic infections in livestock and/or in increasing efficiency in livestock production. Enteral administration of polysaccharide butyryl esters to livestock animals results in increased butyrate concentrations in the lower intestinal tract. This leads amongst others to a reduced presence of pathogens in the lower intestinal tract and feces and superior growth performance results compared to other butyrate formulations or products. The feed material provides polysaccharide butyryl esters, compositions, such as feed additives and/or feed, having the polysaccharide butyryl esters, as well as the uses of the polysaccharide butyryl esters as feed additive, e.g. for preventing or treating pathogenic infections in livestock and/or in increasing efficiency in livestock production.

This invention relates to the development of products that are alternatives to antibiotics with medically important human therapeutic uses for livestock meat and protein production efficiency. These products will be used to replace antibiotics used to rapidly increase lean muscle mass with specific feed regimens. The present invention is for the identification of non-human antibiotic products to be used with different feed regimens for livestock growth and meat promotion that include prebiotic supplements and keystone species probiotics that produce the desired growth promotion phenotypic effects. The present invention includes the identification of enterotypes that can be used as targets for recapitulation by compounds that are screened to produce the desired phenotype.

Under controlled reaction conditions (neat) and a controlled weight ratio of the two reactants a product that is substantially odor free and useful as an animal feed supplement results.
