Fishing reel with incremental metering system and modular balancing weights
A fly-fishing reel having an integrated incremental meter device along with a modular weight system for customizing the weight of the fly-fishing reel in order for an angler to use the fly-fishing reel with a variety of fly rods and still maintain a desired balance point. The modular weight system allows the balance point of the rod and fly-fishing reel to be adjusted. The incremental metering device is adapted for keeping a tally of selected data, such as, though not limited to the number of fish caught or released.

Detection of derelict fishing gear
The location of lost or entangled fishing gear, known as derelict gear, is detected. The motion or change of position of a buoy attached to fishing gear is determined via sensors mounted on the buoy and compared to typical buoy motion. If the buoy has moved beyond a threshold value from its original location, an alert is sent to the fisherman. The available sensor data will be used to determine the likelihood of loss or entanglement. This alert facilitates recovery of lost or entangled gear by identifying where immediate retrieval efforts should be focused. The number of traps lost to the ocean that otherwise would continue to trap or entangle marine life may be reduced.
Board chumming system for a boat and boat having same
An on-board chumming system and vessel using same include a generally vertically oriented downtube that connects a feed portion at the top with a comminution chamber at the bottom. A water inlet at the top of the downtube facilitates the bait falling into the comminution chamber to be pulverized and mixed with water to create the chum, which flows out of the comminution chamber through an outlet that passes through a side of the vessel.
Instantly adjustable strike indicator created by friction assembly
An adjustable strike indicator apparatus for use in fly fishing is disclosed comprising a rigid center section and friction assembly comprising two layers of friction creating material. The two layers of friction creating material encase a section of leader fishing line. The friction assembly is mechanically coupled to the inside of a housing unit, such as an EVA foam ball, which can be manually repositioned on the section of fishing line by a user.

Reactive fishing rod holder
An improved fishing rod holder (10) includes a cradle (20) loosely suspended from an arm (20) attached to a leg (14) secured to a foot (16) of base (15). Second (30) and third (50) embodiments are also disclosed.
Water-activated bobber release device with valve
A water-activated bobber release device has a housing, a bobber assembly, a spool and a line, a bobbin assembly with a dissolvable tablet, a screw extending through a central hole in the bobber assembly and a center hole in the dissolvable tablet of the bobbin assembly, and a cap with an aperture and a valve between the aperture and the bobbin assembly. The screw engages the bobbin assembly and a threaded fastener to compress a spring. When the device is submerged in a body of water at a certain depth, the pressure opens the valve to allow water to enter. The water dissolves the tablet which collapses the bobbin assembly, and the spring forces the bobber away from the housing. Once released from the housing, the bobber is free to float to the surface of the water allowing for the retrieval of the submerged item attached to the housing.
