A brake is provided for an idler roll (10) of a fiber web machine, in particular of a slitter-winder, which idler roll (10) has an outer shell surface (13). The brake (20) is located outside the outer shell surface (13) of the idler roll (10) in close vicinity of the idler roll (10) in a non-contacting position. The brake (20) has a permanent magnet (25), which is configured to be moved from non-braking position to a braking position and vice versa by an actuator or cylinder (35, 45).

The partial sheets are each wound up into a bobbin in the conveying direction behind the second roller. The at least one first roller and the at least one second roller are each driven by a drive so that the tensile stress in the material sheet or in the partial sheets changes periodically over time in the conveying direction of the material sheet.

The method eliminates the need for a step of printing on a film for the purpose of locating a point-of-interest on the film.

The present invention relates to a device (20) for winding a longitudinally cut material web having multiple longitudinal strips (12) on a plurality of winding tubes (16) to form in each case a wound roll. The device comprises an axle (24) and, mounted on the axle, a plurality of ring-shaped winding drives (22) that are individually controllable in their operating position. Each winding drive (22) forms an external-rotor electric motor and comprises a static interior tube (40) and a rotatable external tube (50). The external tube (50) that is rotatable on the rolling bearings (48) bears, on its interior, a device for providing an excitation magnetic field (52) that forms the external rotor of the electric motor.

The sheet stock drawn about the movable dancer may be a slit-sheet stock having a plurality of slits configured to expand under tension applied in a feed direction. The controller may be configured to control expansion of the slit-sheet stock upstream of the coiler allowing conversion of the sheet stock into a coil of relatively less dense dunnage prior to or during winding.
